Ed, turn off your Windows alert sounds :-) | They typically go away after he stops sharing the music. When sharing music, it shares your entire computer audio. For me, I have email/message notifications always silenced so that's why mine are never heard during the music :) |
Jump big jumps on eranings. FUTU, BBW, AI, ELF, A, VEEV and NVDA | Now the trick will be to see how they hold. |
Morning all! Hope all are well! | Good morning! |
"Good Morning All !!! - I've been holding $BTSG for a few weeks now. Started noticing ANTS show up right before key pivots — over and over again. That got my attention.
Now it's tightening up like a classic Minervini VCP. Volume's drying up, RS line's rising. Looks like something's brewing. What do you think ? Can You Cover it ? Would this be a classic of what Bill O'Neil would be looking for ? It looks like it checks all the BOXES ?" |
Hi there! We cannot answer questions about a ticker when you disclose ownership. Ask us about any ticker but don't tell us you own it. We cannot give personalized or individualized advice. Thanks! |
Mike can go home now. | LOL |
Morning ! :) | Good morning. |
Good morning! Can you please look at GEV? | GM Suzanne! Thank you for joining us today. GEV looks like it's making a normal dip after a very good short-term run that led to a breakout from the standard entry of 447.50. From here, let's see if 1) GEV holds its ground near that 447.50 pivot; 2) It stays above the rising 21-day EMA; 3) If GEV falls below the pivot, it limits any short-term loss to no more than 4%-5%; and 4) Other stocks in the group act well. This Investor's Corner may be helpful, too, cheers. Hatman Dave -- https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/growth-stocks-and-breakouts-backtrack-to-retest-buy-points/ |
we miss Ali! | Aw you are too sweet! I am happy to host most Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays :) Am glad Dave and Ed (and even Justin!) host as well. |
Good morning Arnie could you look at NVDA. Thanks | live answered |
Thoughts on GEV Thankyou | Hi Alan! I gave my take on GEV in a reply to Suzanne. |
What was Arnie's stock? | HLNE |
Big thanks to @Mike Webster for the invaluable guidance on "Friday market today show"—truly helpful and greatly appreciated! | Thank you so much for watching! We love our Friday Stock Market Today shows! |
Thank you! | Thanks for joining us today, Isaac. Hatman |
Good Morning | GM Sambasivan. |
What's up Webby? | Hey Joe! Hope your stocks are treating you well. |
Market is up because of NVDA. | Exactiment; NVDA up 4% now, TSLA up 1.9%, AMZN up 1.1%, leading the Mag 7. GM James |
Can we please get an updated reading from Arnie's Giddy Meter? Thank you! | No Thursday show would be complete without it. |
Rachel, it's good to have you back! As somewhat new to IBD, I enjoy your thoroughness in analyzing stocks and how you demonstrate the IBD Methodology in your trading process. What's your routine for checking the markets, sectors and groups? Thank you! |
Joe, this is Hatman. Awesome to hear. Rachel has been a very studious reporter since joining our markets (and now video) team roughly 6 years ago. Chris, Juan and I are very proud of her. I think you're right, maybe it's time for Rachel to be on Justin's podcast and address those issues! |
Looks like sell the news | Hey Phil, maybe a bit, maybe a bit of buying, and rinse and repeat? |
Opinion on GEV | Hi James, I gave a long reply on this one in the QA; thank you for joining ibd live. |
Thanks | live answered |
Webby - CRWV - did you or Ali every start o position? What is actionable this morning. I like DASH | James, I had a successful buy-limit order for a few shares at 41. Sold most of that ahead of earnings, because I expected a "buy the rumor, sell the news" reaction. And CRWV did so, but only a wee bit! What a show-stopping move. Guess I did not trust the fundamentals. I was also more risk-averse than reward-focused. Just my 1 cent, cheers James. Hatman |
As a general rule, when you de-risk ahead of an event (and not because a stock is doing anything wrong) like leaderboard and swing trader did yesterday ahead of NVDA earnings. Once the event is over, how do you approach adding back? Do you wait for another proper entry into the stock? Or buy back regardless once the news has been digested? Would be great if you could discuss this. Thank you very much! |
Love this question. Passed along to the team to address. |
Ali, thanks for explaining the audio … Also, I enjoy your after market podcasts. You do a great job of hosting regardless of which co-worker is presenting, and your own analysis and chart reading is very helpful to me. Thanks for all you do! | Appreciate it, Joe. Thanks for being part of our community! |
Ali - LOAR - old leaderboard name - has recovered nicely in MAY - anything that entices you to but, CRWV is a beast. | Other aeorospace/defense sotcks look better. I really don't like how LOAR broke around earnings and looks feeble on this bounce back. CRWV a beast indeed |
good morning ibd great to be here | Welcome one and all! |
UBER down and breaking through the 21 day | Likely on the Tesla robotaxi news last night — June 12 is confirmed date for Austin rollout. I still own UBER but let's see if it can hold the 21-day or if it closes below it. Key level for me. |
TSLA's strength has become UBER's weakness. UBER testing its 21-day line this morning. | Yeah, I thought Uber had enough deals so Tesla entering wouldn't be bad. But, we'll see! |
Is there some news in GEV? I CANNOT FIND ANY, BUT DOWN 4% | It has been running a TON over the last month and is still above its 10-day MA, so due for a down day in my view |
CRWV | Looks like a hold — maybe could trim into this strength |
UBER ? Any news related drop? | Tesla robotaxi news out last night — June 12 is the expected date for rollout in Austin |
Ali - Thanks - what names are you watching this morning to enter? | Keeping a close eye on NVDA. Let's see if it can cross the highs of the first 5 minute bar. I just bought a small position in the opening minutes, going in very incrementally because there's risk it could fade. |
UBER, Ali? | If it closes below the 21-day line, that would not be good. I would be lightening up if not getting out completely. Trying to be patient this morning since it's shown such strength off the lows. |
Trying to guess what "feed the ducks while they are quacking" means. :) Is it related to buying or to selling? | Selling into strength, locking in profits |
Any news on GEV? | #Jefferies Downgrades $GEV to Hold from Buy, Raises PT to $517 from $427 |
What's up with UBER? | TSLA robotaxi news last night. June 12 is expected rollout date in Austin. |
What happened to UBER ? | TSLA robotaxi news |
How would you act on UBER as a position trader? Would you wait for the end of the day and see where we are in regards of the 21 or cutt right away? | If it closes below the 21-day line, that would not be good. I will be lightening up if not getting out completely if that happens. Trying to be patient this morning since it's shown such strength off the lows but not looking good! |
Ed - why would jefferies downgrade gev AND THEN RAISE THE pt BY $90 | Happens. Stock ran past buy point but analyst doesn't see further gains. |
What happened to GEV | Sounds like they got a downgrade, but the stock has been super strong and still well above its 10-day MA |
P.S. My name keeps coming up in reverse. How can I change that ? | This is not something we have the ability to change right now but flagging it for our engineering team |
Any idea why GEV is down so much? | Downgrade apparently |
Ali - how are you handling NFLX? 21 day? | It depends on how it acts around the 21-day. Will try to use the 10-week if I can and the RS moving averages on the weekly. It's doing nothing wrong right now! |
Arnie, do you hear any ducks quacking? Thank you, Darrell | hahahahah |
Ali...how are you handling UBER? Also, when are you on Sirius/XM I missed the when/where/what time etc. | I'm still holding but if it closes below the 21-day line, I will be trimming… |
any reason netflix is down today in up market | A HUGE amount of the "up" today is just Nvidia (and maybe Tesla). Outside of that... |
Ugly day for SPOT so far. Do you guys think it's rotation out of "tariff"-resistant stocks or something else? | Might be - NFLX also down. And most of the gains today are NVDA (plus some TSLA). |
Ed- what is the purple crayon reference? I've heard you say it but don't know what it means- yet ; ) | Harold and the Purple Crayon. Children's book where "Harold" uses his purple crayon to draw his imagination ... really good story. So I use the "purple crayon" when I draw early entries ... vs. conventional buy points. |
Thoughts on ETSY please, action in the last 3 days | Action in the last 3 days is good but what bothers me is the action of the last 3 years. Stuck in a downtrend with multiple tests of 40-week moving average. We'll see if this one bucks the downtrend. |
Restaurants are acting well again today | What a great day they had on Tuesday! |
Who's watching ticker AI??? :-) | It kind of dropped off my radar since it was stuck under the 200-day line for so long when so many stocks looked better. We'll see if this gap up changes things. |
"I love the way everyone shares their various viewpoints. It gives one a variety of ways to react
Wondering about CRWD. Is it just a handle forming or not? I guess only time will tell" | Variety is the spice of life, right? CRWD was one of the first movers on the April 22 follow-through day which earns its some extra points in my book. Leaderboard had it but then went heavier in RBRK and that one has been unstoppable in that space, but extended. |
Hoka, Webby! I have 3 pairs. | I went with Hoka myself. But I probably will try On at some point. Seems like people either love them or hate them. |
3 distribution days on rsp within 2 weeks? is that significant? | Not really, one of them was only a 0.4% decline w/ a close well off lows. |
In and Out - Can you still request animal style? | Absolutely. |
Not a lot of volume in CAKE breakout? | It was above average, tracking above average today as well. |
EATZ is ETF devoted to restaurant sector | Good looking chart! I love when they nail tickers like that and their tag line is pretty good too "Put your money where your mouth is." |
Even CRBL is up | I don't think I've ever been to a Cracker Barrel but I was a Boy Scout and that was the name of our evening snack and hangout time at camps and such. |
wow what happened to Boeing | CEO at Bernstein conference positive comments on 737 Max. |
Mike, you guys need to look into the turn-around at Brinker Intl with their relatively new CEO Kevin Hochman. There are some great interviews on Youtube | Cool...I will thanks |
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH CRWD !!! | It's holding above its 10-day moving average. Can't go up every day! ;) |
Is an outside down day on higher volume (GEV as an example) a sell signal? | Depending on style — could be a signal to trim a little. |
BA is breaking out today | live answered |
Look at BA...lift off!! | CEO at Bernstein conference with positive comments on 737 Max production rate goals, quality defects going down. |
BA | live answered |
BA breaking out? | live answered |
Thoughts on BA as it breaks/tests recent resistance? | live answered |
Is LRN on the chopping block? | I got shaken out weeks ago. But if it closes below the 21-day and the low from two days ago that would be an exit for me. |
Don't Laugh, but BA please. | Not laughing at all. I own it! |
what do you guys think about MRX | Was acting very strong but got wild at its earnings report. Nice to see support at 50-day line. |
Sorry if you already covered. Any thoughts on GEV? | Downgrade but a strong move over the last month and still holding its 10-day MA |
Over the last several weeks I've submitted dozens of questions. Please try to respond to them on occasion | Hi Arnie, we have over 300 unanswered questions. We have thousands of participants and a very small handful of team members able to answer questions. Some days only 1-2 folks. Thank you for your patience, please keep submitting your questions! |
ed, did XIACY report Earnings? any reason why its down? | Not down much today. |
Webby/Chris - AS - did a secondary 35 Million secodary last night at $37.20. Insider selling not the company - Any thoughts? | Holding up quite well despite the gap down on the news. |
Any idea why GEV dropped big today? | Got an analyst downgrade (with price target hike). |
Hello, what is the percentage above the 50ma where you recommend caution about buying a stock? Thank you | The general rule is 10% above the 50-day line is starting to look extended. |
Mike due respect what is the point of a trade if you're ready to sell as soon as you buy it? - set a reasonable stop and let it play out - scared money can't make money | 100% disagree...that's what makes a market |
"BOOM" Webby with a Grate, Grateful Dead Pun! Loose Lucy is my Delight! | Great tune |
CHRIS - Did you take a position in TMDX on Tuesday? It's trading soooo tightly. | I did. I hope it turns higher today. |
Muddy Waters or Buddy Guy? You're killing me Bro. | LOL just having some fun...I thought it fould have been Howlin' Wolf or Robert Johnson;) |
What's up with NFLX and SPOT? | Seeing lots of growth stocks lagging pretty badly today. |
I learned the hard way to set stops no more than .005 of my portfolio. You can make it back quickly | Always do what works for YOU |
Thoughts on TW? | It's been a stair stepper the past two years. For those, I would buy on a pullback. If you look at a weekly chart you'll see that most breakouts get undercut a few weeks later. |
Alot of traders use .01 % | Nothing wrong with that IMHO |
Love your style comment Webby and that you remind everyone of that when it makes sense. | Oh, thank you! |
ED "Boeing to resume airplane deliveries to China next month, ramp up Max production, CEO says." | Thanks. |
Webby, when do you use a stop vs a stop limit order? | STOP market |
MRX off 50 day? | Solid test, I agree. Risk very defined with stop at today's low. |
WEBBY: I did get your Muddy Water, Buddy Guy line . . . and it was funny:). | TY |
Have you looked at BA breaking recent highs | I like the tight action after the recent surge. |
Justin is the best !!!! | live answered |
RBRK will not sell off | The true leader in cybersecurity now. Let's keep watching for the first test of the 8-day EMA and 21-day EMA. |
AVGO | Scott hope all's well. |
Webie - I do the same! It does take more time to enter all the stops, but once done, it's set-and -forget. | Yep |
Webby, good word on sellling at low. Thank you | You are welcome |
Mike please let us know which brokerage you use to allow setting so many different stops for the same stock | I believe he does most of his trading with IBKR. |
I am surprised to see AVGO not performing in-spite NVDA's positive earnings.. | Investors want to wait for Broadcom earnings next week. |
Ed ..Use the left arrow keyon bottom left panel | Thanks |
Call IBD Ed | Good one Brian. |
BTSG | I like it. And just bought some. |
does anyone have a gues as to why the growth stocks dipped so much this AM, and are coming back? | Profit taking? |
BTSG | live answered |
Thank You Arnie, Webby, Rachel, Ed, and Ali, and Hatman. | TY |
BTSG (high in IBD50) - early entry opportunity | Thanks for the heads up! |
Put this clip of Arnie on YouTube! | We'll be doing that shortly! Thank you Pau! |
Mike, if a subsequent base does not undercut the prior base, isn't this proof of strength vs. concern with later stage bases? | Big topic |
Mike could you round up with your gamplan for the end of the day please? | He's discussing now! :) |
Today (so far) we've had a number of "failed breakdowns" which is positive. | Totally agree, Peter. Trying to keep my "patience" hat on. |
Swing Trading has been working well taking profits on the way up | Thanks, Phil! And on the flip side, cutting those losses quickly. Not giving up model portfolio gains so we keep that huge gap of outperformance. |
Webby I LOVE your imitations of Bill bc I can feel him through you (so much more imp than how close your accent is or isnt' ;) | ! |
I think we're going to make a record!! :) | Personal record! |
It would be nice if Webby could post an uptodate grading video | Sure |
Grading your stocks is a candidate for WRO? | YEP |
