I went to Leeds' secret discount Greggs Outlet and got a big haul for a fiver

Greggs has set up 30 discounted shops across the country called 'Greggs Outlet' to help eliminate food waste and raise funds for community projects. There are 30 discounted stores across the UK with the majority up North.

Pastry fans can grab a bargain with discounts of up to 75% off as these outlets sell food which is a day old, but still perfectly safe to eat. The Greggs Foundation and local community groups are then given some of the products.

Across Yorkshire, there's three of these discount shops, located in Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield. I went to the Leeds branch on Hollin Park Mount, Easterly Road, in Oakwood, to see how the prices compared to your standard Greggs shop.

As soon as you enter the small shop, you're welcomed by a shelf of baguettes and oval bites on offer for £1.05. This is significantly lower than the standard prices which mostly hover around the £2.75 mark.

There was also a pack of two pastries on offer for £1.25, a pack of four vegan sausage rolls for £1.25, Yum Yums and Belgian Buns for 55p, single muffins going for 35p. And four packs of filled doughnuts on sale for £1.25.

The prices work out to almost a quarter of the price in most instances. Any Greggs lover would be impressed.

I fortunately went down earlier in the day, before the lunch time rush. However it was fairly busy with a growing queue in the small box sized shop. Fellow customers were rifling through the various options on display, seeing what was up for grabs.

There was a big trolley of even more deals just behind the counter, so I'd clearly picked a good time to visit the shop. As I queued up, the line continued to grow with the shop filling up.

All of this food cost £5.50, it would have usually cost £12.10 (Samuel Port)

I decided to purchase a chicken and bacon baguette for just £1.05 - which usually comes to £2.75. A packet of two steak bakes - which usually comes to £1.80 each.

A packet of four filled doughnuts for £1.25 - which would usually sell for £1 each. And a bottle of orange juice to wash it all down, which I discovered at £1.70 hadn't been reduced at all. None of the cold or hot drinks on display are reduced in the Gregg's Outlet.

My haul came to £5.50 overall, with the 5p bag included. It would have usually cost £12.10

The food, even though it was a day old, tasted fresh and was in a good state of repair. I feel like for about a fiver it was really good value for money and will certainly revisit when I'm next passing through Oakwood.
