'I love working in UK's rudest restaurant - it's my goal to make the customers cry'

I've grimaced through a fair few awkward interviews in my time and should have guessed a professional Karen would be a tough cookie to crack.

However, nothing could have prepared me for foul-mouthed Mica, a perpetually peeved host at the newly opened branch of Karen's Diner, in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.

For those yet to enjoy the unique experience, an evening at Karen's Diner typically involves being shouted at and insulted from the moment you're ordered to your table to the timeyou're impolitely instructed to "f*** off."

The retro diner chain, thought to be among the rudest restaurants in the UK, prides itself on delivering "good food and very rude service", with relentlessly blunt hosts point blank refusing to break character even for a moment.

I and fellow Mirror writer, Danielle Kate Wroe, recently rocked up for a bite and were pelted with abuse as soon as we stepped through the door. When I dared ask for a quick interview, I was treated with the sort of furious, undisguised loathing you'd expect.

The only highlight for Mica was apparently telling me I was a "s**g" (Julia Banim)

Would you tell me a little bit about what it's like to work at Karen's?

Mica: "It's f****** s***, next question!"

What drove you to apply here?

Mica: "Because I'm an a*******. Next question."

What is your favourite part of the job?

Mica: "Nothing. Next question."

Fortunately, the Karens didn't make us cry this time at least (Julia Banim)
Mica claims to have made kids cry in the diner before (Julia Banim)

Are there no highlights at all?

Mica: "Yeah, telling you that you're a sl*g."

Who are some of the worst customers you've ever had?

Mica: "Exactly you two."

Oh no! Okay. Tell us a little more about yourself and being at Karen's.

Mica: "I'm Mica. I'm an actor and singer. I live in Manchester. And to make some money I call people a******** and work in a restaurant. Is that what you're trying to get at?"

Do you ever get any complaints about the way you speak to people?

Mica: "Yes, and you know what I do? I don't give a f***."

Cool. Have you ever made anybody cry in the restaurant?

Mica: "Yep, kids especially."

Oh no! What's been the worst incident?

Mica: "When I told them Santa wasn't real last week. They were being little s****, so I told them Santa wasn't real and they f***** off. So, the perfect solution for me."

According to Mica, one customer couldn't take their insults and so went to the Italian restaurant next door (Julia Banim)
Mica isn't a big fan of the menu but does recommend having all the shots (Julia Banim)

Has anyone ever left the restaurant in a rage?

Mica: "We had an emasculated man who was obviously so much of a little b**** that he couldn't handle it. So he left his family in there and he went to the Italians next door, just last week."

Talking of the restaurant, do you like the food here?

Mica: "No. Everyone else seems to though for some f****** reason."

What's the least worst thing on the menu then, would you say?

Mica: "Every single shot on the menu. If you don't buy every single one of them then you're a tight a******* and we'll just call you poor."

What's the best cocktail to go for?

Mica: "Every single one of them, all at the same time."

Is there anything else you'd like to add, to tell Mirror readers?

Mica: "No."

If you're feeling brave enough, you can face the wrath of the Karens at the Manchester or Sheffield branches, with a Birmingham restaurant set to open soon. Find out more here
