When it comes to washing machines, you want to invest in one that will last you a while. Or at the very least, not require a bunch of repairs shortly down the road. Several swear by the popular brand Speed Queen, but what if you don’t want to shell out over a thousand dollars just to keep your clothes clean? An expert reveals the perfect pick as Whirlpool.
Bang for your buck
In a viral TikTok, a plumbing expert shared the best budget-friendly washing machine when shopping at Home Depot. He strolls through the home improvement store, panning his camera across the various washing machines.
The TikToker @twinhomeexperts, who is one half of the Schuelke duo that owns the Twin Home Experts service company, often shares tips and tricks for home appliances.
“If you’re in the market for a new washing machine and have a budget of $500 or less,” one of the Schuelke brothers begins, “this is the one that I would go with.”
The video then cuts to a close-up of a classic white Whirlpool washer with a listed price of $498.
“Now Speed Queen is the ultimate washing machine,” he asserts before assuring that the Whirlpool is a great option if you’re on a budget.
Here’s why
The TikToker then breaks it down for his viewers: why exactly should Whirlpool be your pick out of all the other brands?
“First off, this is a dual agitator,” he reveals. With a dual agitator, he says, the machine has “dog ears” that allow it to wash clothes pretty well by moving back and forth. He cites this feature as allowing for a deep clean. Schuelke claims that while the Whirlpool washer might not have all the bells and whistles as its higher-priced counterparts, it gets the job done.
What did homeowners think about Whirlpool?
Despite several viewers thanking Schuelke in the comments section, many were quick to correct him.
“Repair tech here: You need to research more about washers before you recommend em as that Whirlpool currently has a service bulletin out for control board failures,” one top comment read. “I see at least 7 a week with control board failure.”
This led Schuelke to respond that all washers have pros and cons–especially at this price point. While The Mary Sue could not verify official reports on this issue, there have been several posts on forums and Reddit of people complaining about their Whirlpool.
Another viewer stated how they “hate” their Whirlpool, noting, “Nothing but service calls, the child lock broke, control board failing multiple times, had it 4 years . Can’t wait for a speed queen. Never again with whirlpool. Cheap for a reason. I was fooled too.”

It’s not often Twin Home Experts get backlash like this comments section. In a story covered by TMS, several viewers agreed with the twin’s assessment that Bosch is the best brand when it comes to dishwashers.
