'I have his word': Tyson Fury to come out of retirement and why Anthony Joshua fight could finally happen

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has stated that Tyson Fury is set to come out of retirement and return to the ring in 2026.

At the beginning of the year, Fury announced his retirement from the sport after suffering back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

Taking to social media, he posted: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet.

“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it.

“I’m going to end with this - Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”

The announcement came after the 36-year-old was beaten by Usyk for a second time in December, though he initially suggested that he had little intention of retiring.

However, it would appear that Fury will not be hanging up the gloves just yet. In fact, he is set to have the chance to improve on his 34-1-2 professional record.

As per Ring Magazine, Alalshikh has confirmed Fury will step back into the ring next year.

He said:"I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026. We have a rabbit to hunt."

It remains to be seen who Fury’s opponent could be but Anthony Joshua has already gone on record to declare a fight with Fury must happen.

Interestingly, Alalshikh has made it clear that he wants to ensure the all-British showdown - a dream bout for many - takes place and this apparent u-turn from ‘The Gypsy King’ may open the door for it.
