‘I’d take the chips back tbh’: Walmart customer helps older woman grab chips after she asks for help. Then she threatens to report her to a manager

A Walmart customer shares the strange reaction of an elderly woman who asked for her help as she passed her in the aisle, leading her to question if she was being “pranked.”

In a video with over 67,000 views, TikToker Emily (@croupmushroom) says she was walking down the chip aisle when an older woman asked if she could reach an item on the top shelf for her.

Emily happily obliged and grabbed the bag of chips for the woman. However, instead of being thankful for the help from a fellow customer, the older woman began throwing accusations at the TikToker.

Why was the older woman mad at the Walmart customer?

The older woman says, “I’ve been standing here for 10 minutes and not one employee has walked down this aisle to help me grab this. Like this is ridiculous.”

Emily responds sympathetically to the older woman, saying, “Dang, I’m so sorry that sucks. Well, I’m glad I was able to help.”

Then, the older woman snaps at Emily, telling her she needs to “run [her] store better.”

“Oh, I actually don’t work here. I’m just shopping,” Emily tells the woman. However, she still isn’t satisfied with Emily’s answer. She grilled her on why she stopped to help if she doesn’t work at Walmart.

Emily says the older woman insisted that she was dressed like a Walmart worker. However, she was wearing a cream-colored sweater and blue jeans.

The woman asks for Emily’s name and says she plans to ask a manager if she is actually a Walmart worker.

“I’m pretty sure you work here and you’re just trying not to get in trouble,” the older woman tells Emily.

The TikToker tells the woman she’s welcome to report her to the manager and walks away. The caption reads, “I felt like i was getting pranked wtf was that about.”

How did other shoppers react to the situation?

In the comments, viewers share how they would have reacted to the older woman’s baseless accusations.

“I’d be putting them chips back up on the shelf,” one writes.

“I would have said ‘yea let’s walk up there together and ask’ cause I’d want to see the look on her face when they tell her you don’t work there then said ‘damn, ain’t that somethin’ and walk away,” another says.

“I would have snatched the chips and put them back. think I work here now???” a third jokes.

Others say they’ve encountered similar situations, some sharing how the store managers handled the insistent customers.

“I’ve had this exact conversation when I was a vendor. Lady really went and brought the manager to me only to be told I did not work there,” a commenter says.

“Some lady said ‘you look like you are dressed to work here’ & followed me around the store (Party City) as I shopped as if waiting to catch me in an act,” another writes.

“I worked at staples (red shirt & black pants) and went into target on my lunch. This woman literally yelled at me because I wouldn’t answer her. I yelled back, ‘I DONT [expletive] WORK HERE!!’” a third shared.
