Well-known horror writer Stephen King has once again shared his strong opinions about Donald Trump.
This time, he called the U.S. president “incompetent” in a recent social media post. King, who is no stranger to speaking his mind about politics, suggested that Trump might actually be aware of his own flaws, saying, “Deep down in his heart, I believe Trump knows he’s an incompetent jerk.”
This latest comment, posted on X, sparked another round of debate among his many followers, with some agreeing and others disagreeing. The author, currently working on a CGI remake of his 1983 hit movie Cujo, had been relatively quiet lately.
This break came after he defended a controversial joke he made about Trump’s unproven claims regarding undocumented immigrants from Haiti. However, King’s newest remark ended that silence, showing he’s still paying close attention to politics. Many of his supporters quickly agreed with him, with one person adding that while Trump might realize his own shortcomings, the bigger issue is that he doesn’t seem to care.
Stephen King is still after Trump
King’s current criticism matches something he previously shared with businessman Mark Cuban, who has been vocal in politics as well. Cuban, during a talk with commentator Brian Tyler Cohen on The Bullwark podcast, gave a harsh opinion of Trump, mentioning that he had done business with him for 25 years. Cuban called Trump an unethical and dishonest person.
Deep down in his heart, I believe Trump knows he’s an incompetent asshole.

While Trump has mostly ignored King’s criticisms, there have been signs that they bother him. King once revealed on a late-night talk show that Trump had gone as far as blocking him on X. King recently talked about how Trump may be a fan, and this may be part of the reason why Trump stays away from attacking King.
I think Donald Trump is a secret fan. He's got all my books.

This back-and-forth shows how their public exchanges have often been tense, though King is usually the one making direct criticisms while Trump responds indirectly by blocking or ignoring him. Whether he’s making his own jokes or sharing others’ harsh opinions, King remains one of the most vocal critics of Donald Trump’s public image and perceived abilities.
