How to play the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test beta on Steam

Valve has officially confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 will drop this summer. More than 20 years since the release of the first game of the series, and a decade since Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the hugely popular multiplayer first-person-shooter is back.

But for eager gamers, summer feels so far away. Luckily though, the first Counter Strike 2 beta is already live on Steam.

A select number of players have been given exclusive access to the game’s Limited Test, offering a taste of what the upcoming sequel has in store. The Limited Test beta opened on Tuesday (March 22), and offers Deathmatch and Unranked Competitive matchmaking on Dust2.

Additionally, future beta releases of the game will offer extra game modes, maps and features. Valve has confirmed that a limited number of players will be invited to the beta “based on a number of factors deemed important by the Counter-Strike 2 development team.”

These factors include “recent playtime on Valve official servers, trust factor, and Steam account standing.” So how do you know if you have been selected?

Here, we explain how to play the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test beta on Steam.

How to play the Counter Strike 2 Limited Test beta on Steam

If you’re one of the lucky players to have been invited to the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test, you will have a notification in the CS:GO main menu. If you’ve received such an invitation, simply select “ENROLL” and begin the download.

When it is complete, launch CS:GO and select the “Limited Test” option to play the Counter-Strike 2 beta. But don’t worry if you missed out this time around, because Valve has confirmed that “more players will be added to the Limited Test over time.”

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to register for the Limited Test, so players should keep checking their CS:GO main menu to see if they have received an invite. Based on the aforementioned invitation factors, gamers are more likely to gain access if they are regular, long-term players.

Those with access to the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test will also able to stream the game and share their experiences with other gamers. Players should note that those who have previously been banned from CS:GO won’t be able to access the game as the penalties will carry over to the Limited Test.
