How Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United legacy could yet be saved

It’s been a manic few days for Manchester United fans in what has, in truth, been a manic few weeks.

On Tuesday evening, it was announced that one of the greatest players to ever walk the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo, was leaving United, shortly followed by the Glazers announcing their willingness to sell the club.

Ronaldo’s departure comes as no real shock to United fans, with his exit coming just days after the release of his bombshell interview in which he criticised the manager, the owners, former players and the lack of improvement in the club's facility.

Every football fan has their own opinion on the Ronaldo interview, and here at MEN Sport, we decided to offer fans the chance to voice their thoughts on what will surely go down as one of the most jaw-dropping interviews ever.

United fan Josh Guy admitted he's happy with Ronaldo’s departure: "He had to go. I love the man, and he’s still a United legend in my eyes, but no one’s bigger than the club, and you can’t go running your mouth off on national television and expect not to face any consequences," he said.

Guy went on to criticise the way Ronaldo went about finding a way out of the club. "In fairness, we knew a lot of the things he [Ronaldo] was telling us. It’s no shock that the Glazers haven’t funded the club properly, the ground saw no improvement in years, so I can only imagine what the facilities are like.

"But no matter what, in any other job, if you’re publicly slating your boss, you’re mad if you think there won’t be any repercussions!"

Brandon Smith mirrored those thoughts: "He’s still the greatest player I’ve ever seen in a United shirt, but it was time. In a way, I respect it. You could tell in the interview that he knew that he wasn’t going to get away with this, but still wanted to come out and say what every United fan's been thinking."

When asked what the future holds for Ronaldo, Smith said: "I don’t really care! It will break my heart if he goes to Chelsea or any other team in the Premier League, you know, but if he goes abroad, best of luck to him!"

When asked if he thought it was worth the sacrifice if it meant the Glazers followed Ronaldo out of the exit door, Guy added: "100 per cent! If that has anything to do with the Glazers leaving, I say build him a statue! What Ronaldo said was dead right about them lot (the Glazers). The stadium was once one of the best in the world, but now it’s just ruined.

"They’ve taken so much away from the club, so it still irritates me that they’re going to walk away with so much profit, but I’m more than happy to cut my losses with them! Viva Ronaldo!"
