House Republican Ken Buck Announces Sudden Resignation From Congress

Alejandro Mayorkas Homeland Security Ken buck Vote to impeach U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas fails in the House in Washington

House Republican Ken Buck has made the decision to step down from his position earlier than expected, citing the dysfunction and lack of productivity within Congress as his reasons for leaving. Buck's abrupt departure is set to pose challenges in the legislative process, as Governor Turner acknowledges that it will make it more challenging to accomplish tasks within the government.

Despite the hurdles presented by Buck's exit, Governor Turner remains optimistic about the progress being made in Congress. He highlights recent achievements such as the successful passing of a funding package for half of the government, with bipartisan support. Additionally, there are plans to move forward with another funding package next week, which is expected to garner bipartisan backing as well.

Governor Turner emphasizes the importance of bipartisan cooperation in passing crucial bills, such as those related to funding for Ukraine and Israel. He points out that previous votes have demonstrated bipartisan unity, with over 300 votes in favor of the measures.

While acknowledging the challenges faced by Congress in recent years, particularly following the removal of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker, Governor Turner expresses confidence in Speaker Johnson's efforts to navigate the current political landscape. He underscores the need to prioritize bringing essential bills to the floor for discussion and approval to ensure the smooth functioning of the government.
