Hockey5s World Cup: Mariana Kujur and Deepika Soreng lead India to victory over USA

NEW DELHI: India's women's hockey team emerged victorious with a 7-3 win over the United States in their second Pool C game of the Hockey5s Women's World Cup.

The Indian team showcased remarkable resilience and skill to secure the win, with Mariana Kujur and Deepika Soreng leading the charge.

The goalscorers for India included Mahima Choudhary (17'), Mariana Kujur (20', 22'), Deepika Soreng (23', 25'), Mumtaz Khan (27'), and Ajmina Kujur (29'). For the United States, Jacqueline Sumfest (4', 18') and captain Linnea Gonzales (14') found the back of the net.

The United States took an early lead with Sumfest's reverse shot, and Captain Linnea Gonzales extended their advantage. However, India fought back in the second half, with Choudhary converting a challenge to reduce the deficit.

Despite Sumfest's impressive strike from the half-line, Mariana Kujur's brilliance shone through as she scored twice, leveling the score at 3-3. Deepika Soreng then took charge, scoring two crucial goals from tight angles to give India a 4-3 lead.

The Indian team didn't stop there, with Mumtaz and Ajmina adding one goal each to complete a stunning turnaround. The victory comes on the heels of India's 5-4 win against Poland in their first match in Pool C.

India's performance in the Hockey5s Women's World Cup showcases their determination and skill, setting the stage for an exciting journey in the tournament.
