Travelling to the airport is stressful enough—but losing all your possessions in the process takes that stress to another level.
In a viral TikTok, which has amassed 522,300 views, user @therealfatbiscuit shared how her simple airport trip for a work flight went awry.
An hour before an international flight, the woman’s Lyft driver rolls up. The driver seems pleasant enough— he helps her load her bags. However, when the TikToker had to run inside for a phone charger, things got weird. After putting her third bag in the car as she ran in, she was shocked to discover that, when she went back outside, the man was driving away with her possessions.
When chasing him, messaging him, and calling him on the app didn’t work, @therealfatbiscuit called 911. Then a cop showed up at her home. However, the officer didn’t really know what to do, so the TikToker continued to message the driver. He sent her one of the app’s automated responses in return. Because he didn’t end the ride, she could see him driving closer and closer to the airport. When he arrived, he called her, apologizing profusely, saying that he didn’t realize she wasn’t in the car. At this point, the TikToker gave the phone to the police officer, who told him to either come back or they’ll send out a warrant for his arrest.
Needless to say, when he showed up, it was “extremely awkward.”
Reflecting on the day’s events, the TikToker added, “I need a Xanax and a fat glass of red wine right now.”
The TikTok user didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment.

Commenters were split
In the comments, viewers were divided over the situation.
“I’m too New York for this,” one wrote. “Why on earth would you leave your stuff in the Lyft????? I can’t get beyond that. Never ever leave your stuff in the car if you’re not in it.”
“Next time just buy a charger at the airport girl!” a second suggested.
“This is why I don’t travel,” a third chimed in. “People ruin everything.”
While a fourth shared, “I never ever ever plan Ubers or Lyfts to the airport. They’re strangers you’re entrusting with thousands of dollars of planning.”
“Wait so do you believe it was an accident??? I’m so torn!!!” a fifth declared, and a sixth replied, “I don’t believe it for a second. He knew what he was doing.”
Lyft didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via email.
The TikToker hits back
In a follow-up video, @therealfatbiscuit responded to some of the most common comments she had gotten on the last clip.
Firstly, in response to those who hit out at her for leaving her backpack and other possessions in the car, she said that the whole point of the video was to ensure that nobody made the same mistake as her.
She also explained that, as commenters suggested, she did reach out to Lyft. However, she found it difficult to connect with a human fast enough to effectively deal with the problem.
The TikTok user also noted that it definitely seemed like an accident on the driver’s part, so she didn’t feel a need to take it further.
She also disagreed with two other suggestions by commenters: that she cut it too fine to get to the airport, and that she should’ve chased him in her own car.
Above all, @therealfatbiscuit admitted it was “strange” how agitated some commenters seemed about the situation.
Uber customer confronts driver over ‘scam’
Unfortunately, theft and scams are more common than you might think on rideshare apps. TikToker Sadie (@cravesadiee) previously went viral after catching her Uber driver purportedly ‘scamming’ her. As part of this ‘scam,’ drivers get paid without actually completing their ride if they tell the app that they have waited a certain amount of time and the passenger hasn’t shown up.
Confronting her Uber driver directly, Sadie said, “We’ve been waiting for you for a long time” and urged him to cancel the ride. When he asked her if she wanted to cancel, she replied: “Yes, you can, because you’ve been sitting here. We’ve been sitting there waiting for you for over five minutes.”
On-screen text reads: “Normalize pulling up on your Uber drivers when they try to scam you and they are nearby!”
