You’d think Donald Trump would be used to being booed by now. Broadcasters are well aware of what’s going to happen when he’s shown on a Jumbotron, ready and waiting to cut mics to the crowd and pipe in generic applause.
Perhaps most notably, in Feb. 2025, Trump became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. The reaction was mixed, but even friendly reports were forced to note “a smattering of boos”. Now he’s repeated the feat and then some.
The U.S. Open just showed Donald Trump on the screen for a second time and he got booed for 30 seconds straight.

Fans are pissed off. This is the clip that he didn't want you to see. pic.twitter.com/AxJDCgNcLC
Yesterday, Trump attended the final of the U.S. Open between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Upon his arrival, the crowd launched into sustained and furious booing as he awkwardly smiled and waved. The situation was aggravated by the entire game being delayed by 45 minutes due to security delays caused by him, angering an already mutinous crowd.
The U.S. Tennis Association saw this coming and put out an eyebrow-raising directive to broadcasters to “refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the president’s attendance in any capacity.” Why? Because it’s going to hurt Trump’s widdle fee-fees?
Thankfully, ABC and ESPN didn’t bow down to this inane demand and broadcast the crowd’s reactions in full. Apparently, the Association’s directive also extends to “electronic news gathering coverage beyond the official broadcast feeds”. Hey, that’s me! Well, nuts to you, he was booed, and you can’t hide it.
*booooooooo*

By this point, Trump really should be used to this kind of treatment. Even his ego won’t let him believe that all Americans worship the ground he walks on, and he knows there are millions of haters out there. Even so, a whole stadium projecting hatred your way can’t feel great.
Then again, Trump has even been booed by his most rabid supporters at a Trump rally. Back in 2021 he began touting how great he was for funding the COVID vaccine “Operation Warp Speed” program and recommended everyone in attendance get the jab. When that was met by angry boos from the crowd, Trump was briefly disconcerted, but said:
“No, that’s OK. That’s all right. You got your freedoms. But I happened to take the vaccine. If it doesn’t work, you’ll be the first to know.”
If you do happen to want a little ray of light in your day, just remember that wherever and whenever Trump is exposed to the general public (and not just MAGA devotees), he will be booed. That’ll be the case for the rest of his life and, while it’s hardly justice for his many sins, we can only hope he momentarily feels bad.
