GoPro Is About To Lay Off Almost A Quarter Of Its Employees, Company Says

As you may or may not be aware, if you're a publicly traded company, then you're required to file documents with the appropriate government bodies ahead of making certain changes. In this specific case, we're talking about San Mateo, California-based GoPro, which recently filed a form 8K with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Why? Because, it said, it planned to engage in a restructuring plan that its investors needed to know about ahead of time. The company's Board of Directors came to this decision on April 7, 2026, wherein it determined that around 145 of its current employees will be laid off between Q2 of 2026 and the end of the year.

Furthermore, it said, its most recent headcount included 631 employees. That means around 23% of its current workforce is expected to need to find themselves new jobs after these layoffs commence.

The company expects to pay between $11.5 and $15 million US dollars to implement its restructuring plan, most of which will go toward severance payments and healthcare benefits for all the employees it's about to lay off.

Now, if you're thinking that this story sounds a bit familiar, that probably means you've been paying attention for more than a couple of years. You see, GoPro last laid off around a quarter of its existing staff (why is that always the number, anyway?) back toward the end of 2024. And now, not even a full two years later, it's whittling down that staff even more.

Granted, it'll still have around 400-ish employees, give or take, so that's certainly not nothing. If you're one of the employees who gets let go, I don't have to tell you that it sucks. And if you're one of the ones who remains, then it seems reasonable that you can't help but wonder how much longer it'll be before it's your turn, and when the axe will finally fall. Not exactly a recipe for anyone to do their best work, even if you're someone who loves your job.
