Goa CM Pramod Sawant promises 2 cabinet berths for Salcete in post-poll govt

MARGAO: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said all eight constituencies of Salcete would stand by BJP this time.

“Many lotuses will bloom across Salcete in this election. There’s no mission Salcete this time, as the previous such exercises gave us (not-so-good) experiences. This time, however, the people of Salcete have decided to stand by BJP. Don’t be surprised if lotuses bloom in new places,” Sawant told a press conference at the party’s South Goa district office.

Significantly, Sawant said that Salcete will get two cabinet berths in the next BJP government. “Babu Ajgaonkar (Margao) will be made the deputy chief minister and Damu Naik (Fatorda) will be a minister,” he said.

He also targeted Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, accusing them of “doing politics” over the issue of kabrastan and Sonsoddo garbage treatment plant.

“Goa experienced the most corrupt government during the tenure of Digambar Kamat as chief minister; he has thus no right to accuse the BJP government of being corrupt. Vijai should tell the people before elections who changed the land zone of the place earmarked for kabrastan,” Sawant said.

Accusing Sardesai of fooling the people with his “fott, fotting and fottingponn” in the name of Goemkarponn, the chief minister asked the people not to fall prey to Sardesai’s “false assurances". “Don’t miss this opportunity of bringing development to Salcete,” he said.

Sawant said BJP will lead Goa to prosperity.

Besides Ajgaonkar and Naik, candidates of other Salcete constituencies — Savio Rodrigues (Velim), Ulhas Tuyekar (Navelim), Datta Borkar (Nuvem), Anthony Barbosa (Curtorim), Damodar Bandodkar (Benaulim) — were present at the press briefing.
