Galaxy, LAFC Set MLS Attendance Record in El Trafico at Rose Bowl

The LA Galaxy’s July 4th showdown against crosstown rival LAFC drew a crowd of 82,110 on Tuesday night, breaking the all-time MLS single-game attendance record. Fans who attended the game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., witnessed the Galaxy win the game, 2–1.

The West Coast rivalry known as El Tráfico broke the previous attendance mark of 74,479 set on March 5, 2022, in Charlotte FC’s first-ever home game, also against the Galaxy, at Bank of America Stadium.

The Galaxy usually play their home games at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., which only holds a capacity crowd of approximately 27,000. This was the first matchup between the rival clubs at Rose Bowl, which the Galaxy called home from 1996 to 2002. After the win by the Galaxy, the five-time MLS champions now lead the all-time series against LAFC with a mark of nine wins, six losses and five draws (9-6-5).

Tyler Boyd and Riqui Puig each netted a goal for the Galaxy, and Ilie Sánchez scored for LAFC.

The Galaxy, who sit in 13th place in the Western Conference standings, extended their unbeaten streak to six games (2-0-4) as they continue their quest to earn an MLS postseason berth. Following the win, the Galaxy (22) are only three points behind Vancouver (25 points), which occupies the ninth and final playoff spot in the West.

LAFC, which now has lost three consecutive games, remains in a second-place tie with the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference standings with 32 points.
