Furious Cristiano Ronaldo makes feelings clear after being substituted by Erik ten Hag

Cristiano Ronaldo didn't hide his frustration at being substituted by Erik ten Hag during Manchester United 's frustrating 0-0 draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

The 37-year-old striker was hooked for Marcus Rashford in the 71st minute, a decision which was never going to go down well with the man making away. Ronaldo instantly shook his head when he saw his number come up before muttering his displeasure while trudging off the pitch.

Receiving a pat on the back from Ten Hag after allowing Rashford to come on, the Portuguese superstar slumped down on the substitute's bench and continued shaking his head. Ronaldo had endured a frustrated afternoon at Old Trafford in a game which he was denied a goal on two occasions.

The Red Devils legend had the ball in the back of the net in the 48th minute, latching onto Antony's smart pass and slotting past Nick Pope. And while the offside flag was rapidly raised to disallow the goal, the drama wasn't over. As Pope to waiting to take the free-kick from 25 yards out, Ronaldo thought play had already restarted and stole possession from the Newcastle goalkeeper.

Slotting the ball away for the second time, Craig Pawson's whistle sounded and the Untied No.7 was left dismayed. Racing over to Pawson along with a cluster of his teammates, Ronaldo received a yellow card for his protests and would soon been withdrawn by Ten Hag in place of Rashford, who missed a 95th-minute header which would've all but certainly won his side the game.

Pre-match, Ronaldo received a special award from none other than Sir Alex Ferguson to commemorate his 700th club career goal. David de Gea was also handed a gift from Ferguson, the man who signed him for the Red Devils back in 2011. Since then, the Spanish goalkeeper has made 500 appearances for United.

As for Ronaldo, he still stands tall as the top-scoring male footballer of all time for both club and country. "That is really impressive. To score 700 goals is a huge performance," Ten Hag said after the five-time Ballon d'Or winner reached the milestone against Everton last Sunday. "I'm really happy for him. I congratulate him on that performance and I'm also happy as it's his first goal this season in the Premier League. He had to wait for it and I'm sure there will be more goals."

As for the man himself, Ronaldo wrote on social media: What a beautiful number we've achieved together! Thank you to all my teammates, coaches, clubs, family & friends and of course my fans. United we continue!"
