Former Newcastle star quits football for new management role

  • Former England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, aged 34, has announced his retirement from professional football.
  • Shelvey has immediately moved into management, taking over Arabian Falcons in the United Arab Emirates' third tier.
  • He had been playing for the Dubai club since September, where former Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon is co-owner and head of football operations.
  • Shelvey stated his ambition is to reach the very top of management, seeing this role as an ideal project to prove his capabilities.
  • A documentary will follow Shelvey's efforts to lead Arabian Falcons, currently fourth in the table, to promotion in the final five games of the season.
