Former Gogglebox star Paige Deville claims filming is like a ‘pantomime’

Former Gogglebox star Paige Deville has branded the series a 'pantomime' behind the scenes that sees cast members get filmed multiple times.

The former reality star appeared on three seasons of the program from 2019-2021, alongside her mum Sally until they sensationally announced their departure from the show. The 26-year-old hasn't minced her words since departing and accused Channel 4 bosses of providing ‘zero aftercare support’.

Speaking to The Sun, Paige detailed what goes into the project behind the scenes to create the final product. "They [producers] wouldn’t tell you, “Say this word for word,” but they prep you to say things and warn you about comments that won’t make it into the show," she said.

"Sometimes they give you a “three, two, one” countdown which gears you up and gets you ready to react. It’s a bit of a pantomime behind the scenes, you have to understand that you’re a character in a show and you can’t be your 100 per cent authentic self, otherwise everyone would be on their phones for half of the show."

She added: "They film it three times in case they miss a reaction and to have different responses, at times it can be a bit like, “Right, I’m watching this again”, but it’s a job at the end of the day."

The recruitment business owner added that the job involved families watching 15-minute clips from five different shows each week but having to watch them three times so the best reactions can be captured. She revealed that filming could take up to seven hours a day, as producers would often explain the programmes if people weren't up to date.

The stars are told to avoid snacking to steer clear of continuity errors, as cast members are encouraged to sit in similar positions between takes to help the production team editing the show.

After announcing her departure from the show two years ago now, Paige slammed the Channel 4 aftercare procedures in a scathing social media post.

"It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners," she posted on Twitter.
