First trailer for Apothecary Diaries anime movie teases a hidden secret

The first trailer for the Apothecary Diaries movie has arrived, and it's a whimsical tease of a journey Mao Mao must take – as well as a mysterious hidden secret.

In the trailer, which you can watch above, Mao Mao learns she must travel with the remains of a consort who died five years ago, taking the coffin back to the consort's home.

But, Jinshi then asks Mao Mao to investigate something involving hidden treasure, and that's where the young boy Mu Qing comes into things. It all seems very mysterious, and the trailer has those trademark beautiful visuals.

The movie is an original story from Hyūganatsu, and it has a Japanese release date of December 11. So far, no US or UK release date has been revealed.

The Apothecary Diaries season 3 airs its first cour in October 2026, however, so there's not long to wait for more. The second cour will arrive in April 2027. It's expected to adapt the fifth and sixth light novels in the series, though how – or if – it connects to the movie remains to be seen.

Both Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Rez Arc debuted to huge success in theaters, so here's hoping the Apothecary Diaries movie can pull off the same result. Infinity Castle even grossed more than Superman, in a sure fire sign that anime is becoming increasingly more mainstream.
