PUNE: The Young Doctors League (YDL) has organized the first 'Indian Doctors Olympics' in the city, featuring over 1000 doctor participants competing in 11 sports events, including team and individual events, starting November 30.
The IDO is intended to bring together doctors from across the country for friendly competition and to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The event seeks to highlight the dedication and skills of doctors while emphasizing the importance of sports in maintaining physical and mental well-being.
The organizing committee, headed by Dr Nachiket Mahindrakar and Dr Ameet Dravid, includes more than 200 doctors responsible for different aspects of event management, such as sports planning, cultural programs, social media and information, travel and hospitality.
The 'Indian Doctors Olympics' will take place at multiple venues in Pune, such as Sri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi, PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Deccan Gymkhana Club, Vision Academy ground Sinhagad road, Scale up academy ground Warje, DSK Star cricket academy ground Dhayari and Shinde High School Sahakarnagar, from November 30 to December 3, 2023.
In the sports events, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Carrom, and Badminton will feature Men's Singles and Doubles, Women's Singles and Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories. Athletics will include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, relay race, long jump, and shot put events for both men and women. Swimming will host individual and relay events for women's and men's freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke. These competitions will be divided into age group categories, namely below 35 years, 35 to below 50 years, 50 to 60 years, and above 60 years.
In the team events, there will be women's and men's tennis ball cricket, 6-a-side men's box football, men's volleyball, and women's throw ball. will cover sports such as Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Carrom, Badminton, athletics, and swimming, with events for different age groups. Team events will include cricket, football, volleyball, and throw ball.
"Pune will host inaugural 'Indian Doctors Olympics,' attracting participants from various states across the nation. Players from Mumbai, Thane, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Nashik, Solapur, Beed, Latur, Aurangabad, Konkan, Nasik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Amravati, and Nagpur districts, alongside those from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, will participate in this pan-national event," Dr Dravid said.
