PUNE: After arresting a Buldhana-based property agent on May 14 for making fake voter IDs and PAN cards, the city crime branch officials arrested six more agents in the same case.
Police said these property agents were involved in selling and mortgaging lands across Maharashtra after creating bogus government documents like voter IDs, PAN and Aadhaar cards. A large number of property documents at the property registration and land records offices are now under investigation.
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ramnath Pokale told TOI, “The Army Southern Command’s Liaison Unit (SCLU) and crime branch officials are probing the case.”
An FIR of cheating, forgery and using forged documents as genuine under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Bund Garden police station.
A team headed by assistant commissioner of police (ACP-crime) Gajanan Tompe and inspector Ajay Waghmare had arrested Buldhana-based property agent Kalpesh Ramesh Bohra (42) near GPO earlier. During questioning, the names of other agents came to the fore. They were arrested and identified as Umesh Jagannath Bodke (47) of Kalyan, Amol Govind Bramhe (58) of Sinhagad Road, Sachin Dattatraya Javalkar (41) of Kothrud, Syed Talib Hussain Syed Jamin Hussain (43) and Mohammad Asif Mohammad Yunus (38), both residents of Khamgaon in Buldhana, and Pradip Anant Ratnakar (54) of Badlapur, Thane.
The crime branch has seized laptops, printer, scanner, counterfeit rubber stamp making machine, eight mobile SIM cards with fake names and forged voter ID cards, Aadhaar and PAN cards, debit cards, bank passbooks, forged documents, and other materials from the arrested men.
