'Eyesore' Irvine toilet block could be turned into a takeaway as plans unveiled

A former toilet block in Irvine could be transformed into a takeaway.

Plans to convert derelict public loos in the town's East Road car park have been lodged with North Ayrshire Council.

Applicant David Munro wants to breathe new life into the building by delivering a hot food facility with a small sit-in eating area that could cater for around six people.

The bogs have lain empty since closing in 2017. Architect firm McMillan & Cronin, acting on Mr Munro's behalf, describe the current state of the building as an 'eyesore' in documents lodged with the local authority.

A design statement supporting the proposal says: "The area would greatly benefit from a repurposing and enlivening of the structure.

"The relatively remote location (rom any nuisance sensitive buildings and spaces) enjoyed by the building is ideal to deliver a hot food facility that can benefit from the high level of foot-traffic generated from the car parking area and the pedestrian routes through the site."

It is proposed that the takeaway's opening hours would be 7am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 9am to 10pm on Sundays.

North Ayrshire Council planners will rule on the application at a later date.
