
Shanghai Airport’s former general manager probed
Huang Zhenglin, 48, the former general manager of Shanghai International Airport Co. Ltd., is being investigated for suspected "serious violations of discipline and law," a common euphemism for graft, Shanghai’s anti-graft watchdog announced on Nov. 22. He had served in the role for only nine months. The probe came about a month after Huang resigned for personal reasons. The company has appointed Deputy General Manager Li Zhengjia to serve as acting general manager.
GAC starts pilot production of solid-state batteries
Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. (GAC) has launched its pilot production line for solid-state batteries, company Chairman Feng Xingya announced Nov. 21 at the Guangzhou auto show. The company said the line has established the entire manufacturing process for such batteries, making it the first in the industry capable of mass-producing vehicle-grade all-solid-state batteries with a capacity of 60 Amp hours or more.
Huawei launches new partner brands for auto business
Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is expanding its automotive business, unveiling two new partner car brands, Qijing and Yijing, on Nov. 20 in collaboration with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. and Dongfeng Motor Group, respectively. The move expands Huawei’s smart car ecosystem, which is built around its Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance and its Qiankun smart driving solutions. Huawei entered the auto sector in 2019 with the goal of becoming a key component supplier for smart electric vehicles.
Work starts on Tazara Railway revitalization
Work has begun on the revitalization of the Tazara Railway, one of China’s largest foreign aid projects. A commencement ceremony was held Nov. 20 in Lusaka, Zambia. The following day, China, Tanzania and Zambia issued a joint statement on creating a Tazara economic belt to promote intra-African trade. According to China Railway Construction Corp. Ltd., the project is expected to increase the railway’s annual freight capacity from about 200,000 tons to 2.4 million tons and cut transit times by two-thirds.
CATL, SAIC Unit agree on strategic cooperation
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. and SAIC Motor Corp. Ltd.’s commercial vehicle unit announced a strategic cooperation agreement on Nov. 21 during the Guangzhou auto show. The two companies will deepen their partnership in new-energy and intelligent commercial vehicles, focusing on joint research, ecosystem development and global expansion to promote green logistics and urban delivery.
