Emmerdale co-stars have given Lisa Riley a 'cheeky' nickname

Emmerdale's Lisa Riley appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Thursday to discuss upcoming storylines on the popular soap.

The Mandy Dingle actress spoke about heartrending scenes that will see her former husband Paddy Kirk plan to take his own life.

The character, played by Dominic Brunt on the ITV soap, has been facing a build up of isolation, grief and confusion after discovering that his wife, Chas Dingle, had been cheating on him with Al Chapman leading to the breakdown of their marriage. With Paddy and Chas both trying to parent their young daughter Eve, Paddy has been unhappily cohabiting with Chas above the busy Woolpack pub.

During tonight's episode (Thursday) viewers will see Paddy suddenly leave the village without telling his friends or family. Paddy is then set to return next month, when unbeknown to his close friends he will say his goodbyes, before leaving again, with the aim of ending his own life.

Lisa told Lorraine: "He's had all these problems, what should he do? Where should he live? All these layers and layers of suffering" before praising Emmerdale bosses for tackling depression.

The 46-year-old, who first arrived in the soap back in 1995, also explained how she acts as a kind of mentor to some of the younger cast members. Lorraine said: "They come to you because obviously you know, you've been there, you can offer advice".

Lisa then shared a nickname she's been given on-set, adding: "They're calling me Nana and I'm fine with that, they say 'Oh Nana's here'. I'm literally in bed for 10pm, I am a nana. I was the girl that was out until 2am but I've done it all, I know the mistakes I made and I owned it".

Fans were loving her Lorraine appearance. Taking to Twitter, Jess said: "Love Lisa Riley but don't know how happy I'd be getting called Nana [laughing emoji] bit cheeky", while Sarah-Jayne said: "@Reallisariley comes across as such a warm, kind, lovely lady."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITVX
