However whilst that's set to happen later on in the week, we're only days away from Scotland's version of a heatwave actually starting.

Whilst much of the week is set for cloud and rain with a few sunny intervals between, on May 14, highs of 17C is expected for those living in and visiting Edinburgh.

The sun is set to show its face at long last from 10am on this date making it a perfect start to the weekend.

We will then see highs of 18C on May 15 and 16 where it will increase further to 19C on the 17th.

After this, Thursday is expected to see rain however this will only be from 4pm onwards with highs of 18C predicted for the majority of the day spanning from 9am until 3pm.

The following day will also see more sun with highs of 18C again from 9am until 7pm with temperatures peaking between 2pm and 4pm.

The sunny spells however are set to come to an end the following day on May 21 where it's back to our usual rainy weather despite the double digits of 17C.

So whilst we wait for the sun, what does the weather look like for the week ahead?
