East Kilbride to welcome exciting healthy eating spot Sprout

A new eatery in East Kilbride is helping to go green in the tastiest fashion with handmade bowls of filling, nutritious food, soups, and healthy smoothies.

Sprout is an all-new Scottish brand offering a healthy, sustainable lunch alternative to the usual crisps and sandwich affair with tantalising bowls like chili glazed chicken, barbacoa tuna, grilled halloumi, falafel and coronation chicken.

Each includes a different combination of filling and nutritious ingredients such as salad leaves, tomatoes, sweet potato boiled eggs, roasted broccoli, pesto penne pasta, and spiced cauliflower.

Priced at £4.50 for a small or £7 for a large bowl, diners can also choose to build their own, choosing their base, protein, salad, and dressing to make it totally custom – for £5 for the small or £8 for the large.

Speaking about the new opening, Sprout’s Alex Riches, who also runs Saint Luke's, The Amsterdam and The Absent Ear in Glasgow's city centre, explained that in a world of convenience food, Sprout are doing things differently with sustainable and organic, locally sourced produce.

Located just by Hairmyres hospital on St James Avenue, the new venture will also offer healthy smoothies, soft and hot drinks, as well as tasty soups every day (which you can add to any large bowl for just £1 extra).

Alex said: “This is something genuinely new and different – we wanted to bring a really special offering to the area.

“With such a limited range of healthy nutritious food options in the area, we felt Sprout could really help residents to local workers to passing motorists grab a quick lunch any time without resorting to grease or grim packaged sandwiches.

“We’re just off the motorway so even if you’re just passing by, come in and see us to eat in or take away – we guarantee we will give you a tastier lunch than a service station or greasy spoon café!

“It’s important to us to operate in the right way – we focus on sustainability, local produce, recycling, and trying to make the planet healthier as well as our customers’ bodies.

“This is about helping people be healthier but still enjoy incredibly tasty, filling food. It was vital to keep prices reasonable too – it’s so hard to eat good food without breaking the bank right now.

“We really hope we can help with that.”
