Details of Bolton Wanderers' pre-season camp in Portugal as Ian Evatt poised to give updates

Bolton Wanderers have commenced pre-season preparations with a trip to Portugal to prepare for the new League One campaign.

Ian Evatt's squad has headed to the Iberian Peninsula ahead of the 2022/23 season. Wanderers are seeking to mount a promotion charge in earnest in the upcoming campaign to build upon their ninth placed finish last season.

Wanderers have already added two additions to the squad as part of their summer recruitment. Defender Jack Iredale has joined on a three-year deal from Cambridge United on a free transfer, while James Trafford has returned on loan from Manchester City.

Wanderers have already commenced their training camp in Portugal, having reported back on Friday, June 17, for initial fitness tests. Work has continued now that the squad is together on the continent.

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt is due to speak to the press this morning at the training camp, while members of the Whites' squad are also due to be spoken to by the media as well. With that in mind, we've rounded up the main aspects of the training camp which Wanderers have organised this week.

Where have Wanderers travelled to?

The Wanderers squad have headed to the Algarve region in the south of Portugal. They are training at a location in the area which is not being publicly disclosed.

How long are they due to be there?

Wanderers headed to the Iberian Peninsula on Sunday. They have now began training in earnest and will be there for a week.

Who has travelled to Portugal?

Much of the Wanderers first-team squad has headed to Portugal for the week of work in the sunshine. New signing Iredale is among the contingent which has made the trip.

One notable absentee is returning City goalkeeper Trafford. The 19-year-old, who has returned on loan for the upcoming campaign after a successful spell in the second half of last season, is not heading out for the training camp.

This is because of his recent involvement with the England under-21 set-up. He has been granted some time off before linking up with the squad upon their return.

Are Wanderers playing any friendly games in Portugal?

In short - no. There are no friendly games planned to take place while Wanderers are on the continent.

What is planned is a lot of hard work as players build up their fitness ahead of the 2022/23 League One campaign. The club's first pre-season friendly is away to Longridge Town on Tuesday, June 28.
