Dan Walker slams Piers Morgan for being 'bitter' after TalkTV host accused him of 'milking' bike crash

Dan Walker hit back at “bitter” Piers Morgan, branding him a “numptie”, after the TalkTV presenter accused him of “milking” his recent bike crash. It came after Dan was hit by a car while cycling last week, posting a picture of his bloodied face to social media afterwards.

On Wednesday (March 1), the TV presenter made his first public appearance since the incident at the RTS Television Journalism Awards. At the event, he joked that he was “up to my eyeballs” on painkillers, the Independent reports.

He then poked fun at Morgan, mocking his long-standing rival for his dramatic departure from Good Morning Britain in 2021. Two years ago, Piers left the ITV breakfast show after storming off set in response to being challenged by weather presenter Alex Beresford on his coverage of Meghan Markle.

In his speech at the awards event, hosted by the Royal Television Society, Walker referenced Piers' notorious on-air argument with Beresford, which saw Piers storm off set before leaving the show to join newly formed TalkTV. Walker joked that he'd “lost all my inhibitions” due to painkillers and might end up doing something similar.

He said: “To give you an idea of my mental state, let me put it this way: if a weather presenter were to question me in any way, shape, or form, I’m liable to storm off stage in an enormous huff. I might even go as far as to start a new TV channel based entirely on my ego, which no-one will watch.”

Piers didn't take kindly to the comments, tweeting on Thursday (March 2): “If I were Dan Walker, and I’d been kicked off Match of the Day & BBC Breakfast , then washed up on Channel 5 daytime, and only got press these days by falling off a bike, getting a few grazes, and milking it like I’d survived a terror attack, I’d be this bitter too.”

Walker responded: “What a laugh. Interesting idea of taking a lesson on bitterness from a fella who has written article after article attacking a woman who had one drink with him and thought he was a numptie.”

Piers has repeatedly mentioned how he went for a drink with Meghan Markle the night before she met Prince Harry in 2016. He claims she “ghosted” him after the interaction.

Walker sarcastically signed off his tweet: “We missed you last night. You should have come.”
