It’s official: Jane Austen adaptations are the Marvel movies of the literary world — just when you think you’ve seen every possible version, another one pops up with a fresh cast and a new spin. This time, Sense and Sensibility is getting the big screen treatment (again), and there’s a distinctly Aussie flavour in the mix.
Daisy Edgar-Jones, who you probably still associate with emotionally wrecking you (Normal People, anyone?), is set to play Elinor Dashwood, the queen of keeping her feelings under wraps while her life falls apart around her.

So, what’s the deal? Focus Features and Working Title Films (the same brains behind the 2005 Pride & Prejudice and 2020’s Emma) are behind this new take, which is already promising some serious period drama pedigree. Georgia Oakley, fresh from her BAFTA-nominated indie Blue Jean, is directing, and the script is coming from none other than Diana Reid — yes, the Australian author whose books about messy young adults have been all up in your BookTok feed for the past few years.
If you’ve read Love & Virtue or Seeing Other People, you know Reid’s got a knack for dissecting social codes and emotional chaos, which should fit Austen’s world like a well-tied bonnet.
Reid wrote on her Instagram, “It is astonishing that they trusted me with this novel, which means so much to so many people. I’m still pinching myself and cannot wait to see this film come to life with such an exceptional team!”

For those who skipped English class: Sense and Sensibility follows Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, two sisters who have to figure out love, money, and social survival after their dad dies and leaves them basically nothing.
It’s a story about choosing between logic and emotion, with reality TV level drama — but with more bonnets and fewer Instagram scandals.
There’s no word yet on who’ll play Marianne, so the internet can keep arguing about it for a while longer. As for a release date, that’s still under wraps, but with filming set to start v soon in the UK, it’s probably a 2026 situation.
Until then, brace yourself for more Austen fever and maybe dust off your old copy of the book — just in case you want to say “the novel was better” with authority when the time comes.
