County Durham family festival announces 'exciting' additions to line-up

A County Durham festival aimed at families has announced two new additions to its line-up ahead of its debut next month.

Little Lindi, which is organised by the team behind the Lindisfarne Festival on Holy Island, is aiming to be an immersive and family-focused event filled with music, arts and opportunities to explore, have fun and try something different. Taking place on the Lambton Estate near Chester-le-Street, the Ministry of Sound Disco Band has been announced as the headline act, and BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Huey Morgan will also be playing.

The newest additions to the weekend-long programme are Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children's Books; and children's yoga gurus Tatty Bumpkin. Both will be setting up camp in the Little Lindi Wilding Field on Saturday and Sunday of the camping festival.

Seven Stories will be offering Circus Stories and Bedtime Stories sessions, with CEO Wendy Elliott saying: "We're thrilled to be involved with Little Lindi Festival this year, it promises to be a weekend of fantastic family fun, with something for all ages - we hope you'll join us around the campfire for bedtime stories after a day exploring."

Meanwhile, the South Tyneside branch of nationwide children's yoga specialists Tatty Bumpkin hope to take under 7s on a magical adventure. Vanathi Webster, owner of Children Inspired by Yoga in South Tyneside, who run the Tatty Bumpkin sessions, said: "Our sessions enhance development and creativity, through music, movement and storytelling.

"With 15 years of experience delivering children's yoga across the country we are thrilled to finally be up in the North East! Tatty Bumpkin and Baby Bumpkin cannot wait to meet all the children and families for some bendy, giggly fun at our yoga sessions at Little Lindi Festival this year."

Little Lindi’s creative director, Rosie Mason, said: "As the excitement starts building for this year's inaugural Little Lindi festival, we're really delighted to be bringing Seven Stories and Tatty Bumpkin on board to offer families even more things to get involved with and enjoy. We’ve been blown away by the support and enthusiasm for Little Lindi from the North East's creative and cultural community and are thrilled with the family and fun focussed programme we’ve put together."

The creative activity programme at Little Lindi also includes den building, campfire cooking, puppet making, flashmobs, DJing, mini beast hunts, mud kitchen fun, drumming classes, sensory tens and live real-time street art. Dance City will also host a string of dance workshops and classes while Circus Central will also be inviting people to have a go at a range of circus skills.

As well as the aforementioned headliners, the main stage will also host Queen and Fleetwood Mac tribute acts. The action will be spread across five distinct areas: The Den, The Hive, The Walk of Love, The Wildings and The Walled Garden.

Festival founder, Conleth Maenpaa, said: "When we first started talking about putting on a family camping festival, the first image I had in my head was of bedtime storytelling around a bonfire, so I'm delighted that the North East's leading storytellers, Seven Stories, have joined us. And having kids yoga experts, Tatty Bumpkin on the programme offers a lovely way to introduce families to the wide-ranging benefits and fun of children’s yoga.

"The response to Little Lindi's debut has been wonderful and we can’t wait to welcome families from all over the region and beyond for a festival experience they won’t forget."
