Those of us who are members of warehouse stores are familiar with the fact that there are workers at the door who inspect your receipt and cart to make sure everything is in order. Usually, this is a fairly quick and simple process and you’re sent on your way without trouble. However, one Sam’s Club shopper says they recently had a strange experience during this procedure.
In a viral video, TikToker Delilah L (@delilahloredo) records herself attempting to leave Sam’s Club. As the worker checks her cart, they remove four mangoes from a large box of the fruit. L writes in an on-screen caption, “When sams club start taking their job a little to[o] serious.”
‘This is why Costco better’
In the comments section, many viewers wondered why the worker would take the woman’s tropical fruit. Others noted that the action was “stealing” since the customer had already paid for them.
“That’s stealing!” user Yasmin wrote. “You paid for it then its your they have no right taking that from your cart. If that was a problem then the cashier should have said something.”
Some said they’ve had the same experience.
“STOP cuz this literally happened to me and my husband last week,” user Abby.c said.
And while some claimed Costco was better because its workers wouldn’t do the same, one viewer says it happened to them at Costco. “Costco ripped a loaf of bread out of our cart at checkout cuz we just got one and you have to get two to purchase??” user Autumn wrote. “LIKE WHY DOES IT MATTER.”
An ex-Sam’s Club worker said, “Former Sam’s club employee and yes girl they watch us so we have to do this.” However, it is unclear why the worker felt the need to take out the mangoes.
Do I have to show my receipt at Sam’s Club?
According to Lawyers.com, you can generally refuse to show your receipt at most stores. However, membership-based stores like Sam’s Club, Costco, and BJ’s are different.

“The chances are that when you purchased a club membership, you also signed a contract agreeing to allow the store to check your receipt before you leave. Under the terms of your agreement, the store doesn’t need to suspect that you engaged in shoplifting to detain you at the door,” it states.
The Mary Sue contacted L via TikTok comment. It contacted Sam’s Club via contact form.
