Corrie's Roy Cropper furious after being bombarded with Joe Wicks videos

Fitness guru Joe Wicks has seen the funny side after one of Coronation Street's best known characters aimed a cheeky dig at him in the show.

In a scene in the country's longest-running soap, Roy Cropper complained of being bombarded with videos by the TV personality, also known as The Body Coach, despite not appearing to know who he was.

Roy was asked by Craig Tinker how he was finding his new phone. "Enraging" he said in a rant about modern technology from behind the counter of his cafe Roy's Rolls.

"It's main purpose appears to be disturbing me with a constant stream of banal messages from people I'd rather not engage with."

"Pictures of cats?" asks Craig. "Predominantly" Roy replies. "Some babies. The odd dog. And videos of someone called Joe Wicks!?"

"You need some better apps, I'll do some research for you" says Roy's pal in the show Brian Packham.

The reference did not go unnoticed by the man himself.

Tweeting a link a clip of the scene, Joe who became a national treasure for his home fitness videos during the Covid lockdowns, said: "Who keeps sending Roy Cropper my videos? Coz he’s had enough!" alongside a crying laughing emoji.

A number of celebrities and pals also said they found the dig hilarious. Quinten McDowell said: "You know you’ve made it if you’re mentioned on Corrie." Zena said: "He's got to start doing your workouts on Corrie!!!"

Whilst Helen Walsh said: "Brilliant, they should give you a walk in part where you go into the cafe for a cream cake and it conflicts him whether he should tell everyone or not lol... Happy New year Joe. #Corrie "
