Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd responds to hilariously adorable dog scene as fans left confused

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd was quick to respond as a clip was shared from the recent episode of the ITV soap which caught his character in a hilariously adorable moment.

During Wednesday night's trip to the cobbles (June 14), the actor was seen back fleetingly as David Platt as the character paid an interest in his stepson's new love interest. But when David and his wife Shona quizzed Max about his new girlfriend, Bec, Max was cagey.

However, he did later open up to David about the problems his is facing, one being is that Bec is the ex of his former secure training unit pal who he met having been sent away after having pleading guilty to encouraging terrorism after being groomed by Griff and his extremist gang.

During his chat with David, Max also explained his fears around trying to explain that he was charged with Islamophobia and didn’t face time inside for racism. David tried to offer some reassurance for Max, saying that he’s now a changed man, but David quickly changed his tune when he revealed Bec is also Gav's girlfriend.

David branded Gav a 'lunatic' and said that Max has made a mistake by getting close to Bec. But Max appeared to ignore David's warning when he later had a cosy meeting with his new love interest.

But amongst all that, Corrie fans were distracted by a moment in which they saw David showing his softer side by cooing over the family's pet pooch, David, before Max walked in looking slightly amused at his stepdad's baby voice and fussing over the animal.

Sharing the clip to Instagram, Coronation Street's official account said: "How every dog owner greets their dog." And Jack, who has spent more than 20 years playing David in the long-running soap, was quick to respond as he wrote in the comments: "Life imitating art," which prompted some crying laughing emojis from Julia Goulding, who plays Shona.

And viewers were also loving David the dog's appearance. @itzzzo_ tweeted: "David the dog for best actor. #Corrie." @Juani983 laughed: "David, with the dog! #Corrie." @johnny33m wrote: "Brilliant! David is one of the most loved characters on Coronation Street...and so is David the dog."

@brimajordan commented: "Awww this scene is just so cute." @patricia.milligan posted: "Aww I love David’s relationship with his dog it’s so lovely." However, @cathozzy123 noted: "David the dog used to be much smaller!!! Or maybe it’s my eyesight."

And fellow fans were quick to explain that they have had to hire a new dog after the previous one passed away. Jack introduced Corrie fans to the new David back in November and at the time, some were concerned. @selinapops asked: "Wait, a new David the dog actor? What happened to the old one?" @kaffskimush echoed: "What happened to the other one??" @reeve3330 added: "Where is old David the dog?"

In response to the question, @waterlooroadextra said: "The dog sadly passed away in real life." While this wasn't confirmed by Jack himself, fans were quick to respond. @kaffskimush replied: "Thank you… I thought so and that really sad… life is poop sometimes!!" @wilkinson_1992 added: "Awww sorry for their loss."

Sharing the introductory video, Jack wrote: " First day at work. He was nervous but what a star in the making." He then added with crying laughing face emojis: "Thrilled he got the job, well done David." In the video, Jack could be seen holding his new canine pal aloft in his arms as he says: "So this is David, the new David the dog. He is actually called David, or Dave, and is the brand new one."

Jack later shared a look at the new David in action. Posting a video on his Instagram Story, the soap star could be seen holding the dog as he explained: "We are filming today... My co-star, David. Double trouble," before laughing. He then put the dog down and said he is "very excited" but that he's "well trained and knows all the tricks."
