'Control Resonant' Has Gone Gold and Arrives Next Month, But Physical Disc Copy Faces Delay

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that "Control Resonant" is on track for its launch next month, though players hoping to grab a physical copy on release day will need to wait a bit longer.

'Control Resonant' Has Gone Gold a Month Before Launch

Remedy confirmed on its official Bluesky account that "Control Resonant" has officially gone gold, a term used across the game development industry to signal that a title's main development work is complete and ready for manufacturing and distribution.

Reaching gold status typically means the game is locked into its release timeline, since the core build is finished and only final preparations for launch remain.

For "Control Resonant," this milestone means the digital version will release as planned. Remedy also confirmed that players who preorder the digital deluxe edition, priced at $70 compared to the standard $60 edition, will get 48 hours of early access, though that bonus is currently limited to PS5.

Here's When to Expect 'Control Resonant' to Release

"Control Resonant" is set to digitally release on September 24 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game serves as a follow-up to 2019's "Control," this time putting players in the role of Dylan Faden, the sibling of the original game's protagonist, Jesse Faden.

Dylan spent years contained inside the Oldest House as the Federal Bureau of Control's longest-held research subject, and he is only released into the field once a paranatural disaster known as the Hiss begins reshaping the streets of Manhattan.

Remedy has described the sequel as a shift away from the original's gun-focused shooting, rebuilding the experience as a melee-driven action RPG. Dylan fights primarily using a shapeshifting weapon called the "Aberrant," which can transform into different melee forms, while also gaining supernatural abilities by defeating corrupted enemies called Resonants.

The studio has confirmed that Jesse remains a presence throughout the story even though she is no longer playable, describing Dylan's journey as shaped directly by the consequences of her actions in the first game.

Remedy has also confirmed that "Control Resonant" will not include a parry mechanic, a deliberate design choice meant to push players toward leaning on offensive paranatural abilities rather than defensive countering.

'Control Resonant' Physical Disc Faces Delay

While the digital version stays on track, the physical release of "Control Resonant" has been pushed back to October 15, nearly a month after the digital launch. Remedy explained the delay directly in its announcement, saying, "We need more time to deliver the physical version to you, but rest assured - nothing stays contained forever."

The gap between digital and physical availability reflects a broader shift happening across the games industry, as physical media becomes a shrinking priority for major publishers and platform holders.

Sony confirmed last month that it will stop producing PlayStation discs entirely by 2028, all but guaranteeing that the next PlayStation console will ship without a disc drive. That trend extends beyond hardware too, with "Grand Theft Auto VI" confirmed to skip physical discs entirely, even within its boxed retail edition.

While Remedy Entertainment is not holding off on "Control Resonant's" physical copies, the discs are still getting delayed without specific reasons why.
