Congress accuses Sansad TV of focusing on Rahul Gandhi for less than 40% of his Lok Sabha speech

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday alleged that the Sansad TV focused on party leader Rahul Gandhi for only 40% of the time he spoke in the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP and media head Jairam Ramesh, in two posts on X, alleged partiality against Rahul and asked what Prime Minister Narendra Modi is afraid of.

Giving details of the time that Rahul clocked and his coverage by Parliament’s official broadcaster Sansad TV, he said, “In his first speech after coming back from the unjustified disqualification, @RahulGandhi spoke from 12:09 pm to 12:46pm i.e. 37 minutes during the No-Confidence Motion.”

Ramesh said, “Out of which the Sansad TV camera showed him for ONLY 14 mins 37 seconds. That’s less than 40% screen time! What is Mr. Modi afraid of?”

In the next post, Ramesh wrote about the duration for which Rahul was covered by Sansad TV while he was speaking on the ethnic fight-torn Manipur.

He said, “This gets even worse! @RahulGandhi spoke on Manipur for 15 min 42 seconds. During which, Sansad TV’s camera focused on the Speaker Om Birla for 11 min 08 seconds i.e. 71% of the time. Sansad TV showed @RahulGandhi on video for only 4 min 34 seconds while he spoke on Manipur.”

Rahul spoke for the first time on Wednesday after his disqualification was revoked and his membership as a Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad was restored by the Lower House’s secretariat on August 7. It followed the staying of his conviction by the Supreme Court in the Modi surname remark on August 4.

In his speech, Rahul lashed out at the Narendra Modi government and said it had failed to restore peace in Manipur.
