Cody Gakpo's first words after Liverpool transfer as 'phone calls' explained
Cody Gakpo has revealed the role played by Virgil van Dijk in persuading him to sign for Liverpool.
The Reds this evening confirmed the arrival of the 23-year-old forward from PSV on a five-and-a-half-year deal, subject to a work permit. The official fee is undisclosed but the ECHO understands Gakpo will cost the Reds around £40m.

Liverpool have tracked the 23-year-old for some time and decided to make their move after his increasingly impressive performances for both PSV and the Netherlands. Gakpo contributed nine goals and 12 assists during his 14 league appearances this season and was on target three times in five outings for his country at the World Cup.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed he is "really excited" to be able to work with Cody Gakpo after his move from PSV Eindhoven was completed on Wednesday night.
Gakpo had been a target for the Reds after impressing during his time with his former club and while playing for the Netherlands in the World Cup - scoring three times in Qatar.
The 23-year-old will officially sign for Liverpool on the first day of January and is eligible to make his debut for the Reds the following day away at Brentford in the Premier League.
