Anthropic has announced a big update to Claude. It now allows the AI to create and edit files inside Claude.ai and the desktop app. This means instead of only getting text responses or in-app notes, you can now walk away with ready-to-use files including spreadsheets, documents, presentations, or PDFs.

The new update is currently in preview for Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users. Apart from that the Pro users will receive the update in the coming weeks
Now someone may ask what is the use of this new feature. So according to the company it can turn data into insights, where you just have to upload raw numbers and you will get back cleaned data, statistical analysis, charts, and written insights. Besides, it also allows you to build spreadsheets which means you can create financial models, budget templates, or project trackers with live formulas and dashboards.
Furthermore, there is also cross format work which convert your PDFs into presentations, meeting notes into structured documents, or invoices into organized spreadsheets. This capability takes tasks that usually demand hours of manual effort or technical skills like programming and statistical analysis, and compresses them into a few minutes of back-and-forth with Claude.
How does it work?
Claude now runs in a private computer environment, where it can write code and execute programs to generate outputs. Where your role will be to bring context and strategy and the platform will handle the heavy technical work.
Getting started
In order to enable the feature you will have to go to Settings > Features > Experimental. From there, you can upload files or describe what you need, guide Claude through the process via chat, and download results or export them directly to Google Drive.
The company advises to start with simple tasks like data cleaning before moving to more advanced projects like financial models. It also cautions users to be mindful when using this feature since it gives Claude internet access, which may create data security risks.
