Chris Sutton hails Celtic starlet for 'superb' unsung role in goal vs Aberdeen

Chris Sutton has hailed Sean McArdle for his role in Adam Idah's goal for Celtic against Aberdeen on Wednesday evening.

The Irish striker notched his side's fifth of the evening, tapping in from close range to take his personal tally for the season to 20.

In the build-up to the goal, McArdle, brought on in place of Luke McCowan in the second half, played a lovely reverse pass for Nicolas Kuhn to latch on to. His shot rebounded off Dimitar Mitov and into the path of Idah, who did the rest.

"A poacher's goal that, from Adam Idah," said Sutton live on Sky Sports

"McArdle is brilliant here. Great awareness. That ball round the corner [is] superb.

"For Adam Idah, as easy as they come."

McArdle impressed in his brief cameo. The 17-year-old appeared comfortable on the ball and could have scored himself when it opened up for him to have a strike on goal from just outside the box.

Brendan Rodgers wasn't shy to praise McArdle post-match: "I liked him when he came on," he said.

"I like the young players, and any player that you play for Celtic, you have to have personality.

"And you could see at 17, he comes into the game, he takes the ball, he passes the ball. He's got a wee edge to him as well that I like. He plays a lovely little one round the corner, which leads to Adam's goal.

"And that's the personality you need to have to play for Celtic. So, yes, I was really pleased for Sean, like I was for the team."
