Chelsea star suffers injury while on international duty ahead of busy October for Graham Potter

The U.S Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) have announced Christian Pulisic will be assessed ahead of their next match against Saudi Arabia.

The Chelsea winger was not available for selection in their match against Japan on Friday afternoon after suffering an injury in a training session earlier in the week. Pulisic, who is the star player in the USA's team, will now be "evaluated" ahead of their clash with Saudi Arabia.

A statement on the USMNT's official website read: "Christian Pulisic is off today's roster because of a knock he took in training earlier this week. He will be evaluated day-to-day for his availability to play against Saudi Arabia on September 27 in Murcia, Spain."

The match in Spain is set to be their final outing before the World Cup in Qatar later this year. The USA are in a group alongside England, Wales and Iran.

Pulisic's future at Chelsea is under doubt and he will be hoping for a fresh start under Graham Potter to get himself in the best possible condition before the World Cup. The 23-year-old winger came on as a late substitute in Potter's only match in charge of Chelsea so far, the 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg recently.

The American will be hoping he is fit enough for when Chelsea make the short trip to Selhurst Park to battle Crystal Palace in the first game back from the two-week international break. Despite not playing regular football under former head coach Thomas Tuchel, Pulisic could be used much more this month in what is set to be an extremely busy period for the Blues.

Chelsea are scheduled to play nine games – in all competitions – in the space of just 29 days. The so-called 'fringe players', the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Pulisic, could be used on a more frequent basis in order for Potter to rest some players in his squad.

It's the perfect opportunity for Pulisic to get his Chelsea career back on track. It's understood that over the summer transfer window, the American forward wanted to leave Stamford Bridge. He had interested parties, but Chelsea were reluctant to let him go following the exits of fellow forwards Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.
