Chelsea news: Todd Boehly can complete failed £43m deadline day transfer as Broja signs new deal

Your Chelsea morning digest on Saturday, September 3.

Todd Boehly can complete Edson Alvarez January deal

Dutch journalist Mike Verwejj has revealed on the Kick Off Football podcast that Edson Alvarez only wants a transfer to Chelsea, with talks set to continue between the Blues and Ajax 'in the coming days'.

football.london understands that Edson Alvarez was the subject of a £43million bid from Chelsea after tracking the 24-year-old throughout the summer transfer window.

Verwejj said: "Now he just wants to make that transfer to Chelsea. If there is a club that has 50million for you and wants to give you €10million net per year, he really wanted to go. He was quite broken.

"A winter transfer is one of the possibilities. In the coming days, that will be discussed with Chelsea."

Thiago Silva urged Blues to sign Lucas Paqueta

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is a big fan of Lucas Paqueta and has since backed him to impress in England following his transfer to West Ham.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, via the Evening Standard, Silva admitted that he explored the possibility of convincing the west London outfit to make a move for the former Lyon man.

Silva said: "I heard he was about to leave Lyon, had some conversations here with some people, but unfortunately things didn’t work out. We weren’t 100% sure he would leave Lyon."

“The last week arrived, this thing got a lot [clearer] and we had some other priorities because of the injuries we have in the team. So we needed a striker, another defender. A midfielder, was a little less [of a priority], I think that’s why things didn’t evolve well," Silva added.

“I’m happy for Paqueta because West Ham certainly have a very good structure, it’s a great club in the Premier League scene. I just hope he can be sad on Saturday. After that he can stay happy and get to the World Cup the way he knows, the way he’s been doing, which is playing good football.”

Armando Broja signs long-term contract

Chelsea have confirmed that striker Armando Broja has signed a new six-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge until 2028.

The young striker, who turns 21 later this month, said in a statement: "I’m lost for words really just thinking about it. It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing for my whole life, the club that I support and the club that I love.

"I’ve been here since I was a boy so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family. To be able to put on the blue shirt with the first team is a dream come true.

"It's amazing every minute that you get to play on the pitch because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. There’s always competition and everyone wants to play so I’m just happy that I have the opportunity to be a part of it.

"Hopefully I get to play a lot of matches and be a part of the team’s success."
