Chelsea 'enter race' to sign young Borussia Dortmund star as battle for Endrick continues

Chelsea are set to continue with their youth recruitment drive in 2023 as Todd Boehly's goals and ambitions become clearer. The new co-owner has already invested over £250million in new players for the men's team, including £52million on teenagers.

The first transfer window under the new owners proved to be confusing, with Thomas Tuchel quickly moved on and Graham Potter appointed. The 47-year-old has now been left to not only pick up the pieces and get them into somewhat of a cohesive group, he is tasked with starting the long-term rebuild needed.

The move to look at young players has already developed under Potter, with 19-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka earning first team minutes this season before 18-year-old academy graduate Lewis Hall also made his league debut before the World Cup break. Tuchel didn't give teenagers a single minute of Premier League football last season.

In an attempt to make better use of the talent already at the club and also picking up tomorrow's stars early, Boehly is looking on a large timeline towards success form the future as well as the present. Leading this process is a transfer strategy looking towards players who are 24 and under, including a greater emphasis on teenagers.

In this group is Endrick, the 16-year-old Palmeiras starlet from Brazil. He is one of the most in-demand players across Europe and Chelsea are in the race to sign him in 2023. That's not all though, social media site The Secret Scout reports that Chelsea have also started talks with Borussia Dortmund's own prodigy, Youssoufa Moukoko.

The youngster was taken to the World Cup just days after his 18th birthday and made his first international appearance in Germany's pre-tournament friendly against Oman, as well as coming on the pitch briefly in Qatar before his side crashed out in the group stage.

Moukoko has risen through the ranks at Dortmund and made his debut last season aged 17. As a major talent throughout the academy he has since been tasked with scoring their league goals this campaign and hasn't disappointed, bagging six and four assists in 14 matches so far. At under-19 and under-17 level he scored at better than a goal a game - 90 in 56 and 47 in 25, respectively, and has caught the attention of the Blues.

His contract expires in 2023 and Chelsea are trying to get ahead of the competition, knowing that they could sign him for free next summer, and are allowed to speak with him from January 1.

The Secret Scout also states that Chelsea want him on a five-year deal with the option of an extra year, in-keeping with their other long-term deals for Reece James, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah, with Moukoko regarded buy the social media site as a more likely deal to be concluded than one for Endrick.

The pair represent two of the best players in their position under the age of 20, and that fits into Boehly's transfer remit and current plans. As well as Moukoko, Chelsea are keen on signing Jude Bellingham from Dortmund, and may wish to open talks with the Englishman at the same time.
