Celtic get a new song to honour Champions League woe as their record losing streak is truly something special - Hotline

There is nothing magnificent about Celtic’s new Champions League record-equalling run of seven straight home defeats in a row. RB Leipzig became the latest team to pitch up at Parkhead and trample all over the Hoops on home soil. Ange Postecoglou insists his bold tactics won’t change, but as far as the Hotline is concerned neither will the results.

Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “Congratulations to Celtic on joining Monaco in becoming the only team in Champions League history to have lost seven home games in a row. It just goes to show you that they can’t compete without their pet officials who have been instrumental in them winning in Scotland for the last decade.”

Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, added: “When is the penny going to drop at Parkhead that you can't play at the top level without proper coaches. Celtic have a guy who sits in the dugout with a laptop and another who has had a shot at every job going at the club and failed them all.”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “If Celtic ever need a song for when they put on their disco lights they should go for the Earth, Wind and Fire classic ‘September.’ Realistically that’s when their ambitions of mixing it with the European big boys is over by.”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, emailed in: “Celtic are at rock bottom after another defeat in the Champions League after the Germans left big Ange Postecoglou and his players as Leip-sick as parrots. If I was big Ange, I would pack my bags and head to the nearest airport.”

Daizen Maeda looks to be the Parkhead fall guy after passing up a series of big chances. Sean Crossey, Belfast, called to say: “When is Ange going to park the bus with this guy Maeda? He is hopeless! Very poor decision to play him before the young Argentinian lad who is a natural left footer and is as comfortable on left wing as left back."

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, added: “Can’t argue with the result Leipzig were the better team but once again Celtic's Achilles heal is not taking their chances and there was a few good ones. It was always going be a struggle without Callum McGregor and Jota. As for Maeda, he can be described by rearranging the words to form a common - chicken and headless!”

Charles Buchanan said: “Celtic looked tired and slow at times. Where has the quick fast flowing football gone? Can't take their chances when they get them. Bullied all over the park, full-backs giving too much room to wide men allowing the ball to get played in behind us, not picking players up at edge of box. And when are referees going to put a stop to all this pulling of shirts and arms? It is ruining the game.”

Rangers fan Stewart Jackson, Barrhead, chipped in with this: “Can't believe that none of the pundits mentioned the fact that less than six months ago Rangers beat RB Leipzig. Is the possible reason that Rangers play for 90 minutes Celtic for only 60?”

It was a bad night for Hibs too on Tuesday as they slumped at Tannadice. George Fairgrieve said: “I harbour fears for Hibs, they lose to the team at the bottom of the league, recently goals have come from a winger, a centre half and midfielders. When did a striker last score? In the past we had Gary O’Connor, Derek Riordan, Leigh Griffiths and even Anthony Stokes, all consistent scorers. Now we have nothing.”
