Celtic coaching role for Motherwell legend

Motherwell legend and former boss Steven Hammell is set to be named Celtic's new head of coaching.

Daily Record report that Ange Postecoglou played a vital role in Hammell's impending appointment before leaving to take up the Tottenham job on Tuesday, with the treble-winning gaffer giving his backing to the 41-year-old.

Motherwell Hall of Famer Hammell has been out of work since February when he was sacked by the Steelmen after an embarrassing Scottish Cup exit to Championship side Raith Rovers, which came while the club were also joint-bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

But he takes the role at Celtic having been the head of the Fir Park academy before he stepped up to replace Graham Alexander at the start of last season.

The Record state that Hammell will be "heavily involved in the coaching structure, philosophy of the club and mentoring future coaches", whilst working under Chris McCart.

Hammell was replaced at Fir Park by Stuart Kettlewell, who has gone on to reverse the club's fortunes with a run of just two defeats in 14 games, steering them to a seventh place finish.
