A car slammed into the central reservation and knocked down traffic lights on a major road.
Emergency services were called to the incident on Southport Road late afternoon on Saturday, September 24. Taking to social media shortly after 5.30pm, the Roads Policing Unit shared the dramatic photographs.
The shocking pictures show the damaged car on the central reservation at the major road, with significant damage to its front end. A traffic light at a pedestrian crossing had also been damaged in the crash. North West Ambulance Service was pictured at the scene as well as Merseyside Police.

The policing unit confirmed that despite the horrifying images, the driver was not injured. They were however arrested for "blowing 160 at the roadside", meaning they were almost five times over the legal limit of 35.
The Roads Policing Unit wrote on Twitter: "First job of the late shift for us as the driver of this vehicle managed to mount the central reservation and knock down some traffic lights on Southport Road. The uninjured driver has been arrested after blowing 160 at the roadside. Legal limit is 35."
