Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz wedding planners slam 'frivolous' £132k lawsuit

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's former wedding planners have slammed the lawsuit against them as "frivolous".

Nelson Peltz, 80, launched a legal bid against the owners of Plan Design Events, Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba, after they failed to return his huge deposit for his daughter's big day last year. Nicola, 28, tied the knot with Brooklyn, 23, at her family's Miami estate last April in a lavish event spanning across three days.

Since then, the billionaire investor has taken legal action against the two wedding planners after failing to return his $159,000 (£132,000) deposit. The lawyer representing Plan Design Events has slammed the lawsuit as “frivolous”.

The Peltz family went through three different wedding planners in the lead up to Nicola and Brooklyn's big day after their initial planner, Preston Bailey – who planned Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s wedding - stepped down. Plan Design Events were the second company hired for the job just six weeks before the wedding day and were then fired after just nine days working for the family.

The women claim they worked 17-hour days on the three-day $3.5 million (£2.9 million) nuptials, which was attended by 500 guests, including Brooklyn’s parents Victoria and David Beckham, as well as Gordon Ramsay and Serena and Venus Williams, reports the Mirror.

Plan Design Events' lawyer David Rosemberg told the Mail On Sunday: "My clients have impeccable reputations within the event-planning industry and among their high-end clientele worldwide. They operate their business with the utmost integrity and discretion.

"The lawsuit that was filed by Nelson Peltz is frivolous and unimpressive. Relevant and complete emails and text messages that address the misleading statements contained in the complaint will be revealed in discovery as part of my clients' response to the complaint, including in support of the counterclaim they intend to file."

Plan Design Events were approached by Nicola’s dad and mum Claudia, 67, on February 23 last year. They began working for the Peltz family on March 1, but were dismissed by them just nine days later as they were deemed unable to handle the event’s VIP guestlist.

In his filing, Nelson’s lawyers claim: "During their nine days of negotiations… (they) failed to book a single new wedding vendor, failed to finalise the terms of any agreements with any of the vendors that had previously been selected by Peltz and his family and failed to attend previously scheduled meetings with Peltz.

"The celebrity of the wedding couple combined with the anticipated attendance of many high-profile guests required that the wedding planner have the expertise and staffing to plan, coordinate and execute a wedding event of the expected caliber and complexity.

"The guest list included more than five hundred people, including numerous celebrities, athletes, dignitaries and other influential individuals, who travelled from all around the globe to attend."

In the filing, the Peltz family describes Nicola as "a world-famous actress who has starred in blockbuster movies and television shows, including, among others, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel and The Last Airbender.”

The filing also includes screenshots, one of which shows Nicola questioning why they have confirmed Lewis Hamilton as attending when the F1 star himself told her and Brooklyn that he would not be there.

Nicola wrote: "Lewis Hamilton did NOT RSVP. So explain why his names on the list please. We spoke to him. He can't come so explain why you said he rsvpd yes.”

The planner tried to explain she wasn’t familiar with the platform used to host the virtual guest list. She responded: "I need time to do this. I'm going to take a moment to learn the app and send you the information, | hate looking like a fool but | hate the most not giving you what you need ASAP. I will be back soon.”

In the lawsuit they also imply that the planners were abusing alcohol, using a screenshot showing a reference to having a tequila after work as evidence.
