A brave cancer amputee has been backed by an Ayrshire housing association which is collecting stamps on her behalf.
Ayrshire Housing responded to an SOS call from Jacqui Napier, 45, who lost her leg to sarcoma after being told by medics it was ‘life or limb’.
The Ayr office, based in the town’s Main Street, has begun collecting stamps to help fund research into the form of bone cancer.
Former catwalk model Jacqui has battled the disease since she was pregnant with her son, Lewis, who is now three years old.
Ayrshire Live told how the mum-of-one was learning to walk again with a prosthetic leg following the devastating surgery last year.
Jacqui, a former waitress at the Chestnut Hotel, had started collecting stamps with 1kg enough to fund an hour of research into sarcoma.
Her mission got the thumbs up from Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown who encouraged local businesses to show their support and become stamp collection points.
Jacqui has told of her delight that Ayrshire Housing has got behind her research drive.
Jacqui told Ayrshire Live: “I’m really chuffed. They have been really supportive and they are going to put information about my campaign in their newsletter which could reach 1,600 homes.
“My mission is raise as much awareness and fund research into sarcoma.
“I’ve been in touch with the Bone Cancer Research Trust to get more posters to put on shop windows.
“I’m also wanting to get posters printed off which detail the key symptoms to look out for.”
Ms Brown praised the organisation for setting up a collection point to help Jacqui’s cause.
The Ayr, Prestwick and Troon SNP MSP said: “I was delighted to visit Ayrshire Housing’s offices to have a chat with the staff there to thank them for signing up to be the first collection point for Jacqui’s cancer research fundraiser for Bone Cancer Research Trust.
“I trust the generous businesses here will sign up to help Jacqui, and I wish her the best of luck in her campaign.”
Ms Brown is also collecting stamps at her office in Beresford Terrace.
