Booming Edinburgh café up for sale as owners of six years explore new challenge

A popular Edinburgh independent café just outside of the city centre has gone up for sale.

Red Kite, on Cazdow Place, Abbeyhill, has been listed after being run by owners Mr Kedar and Mrs Carys Kshetri for six years. Offering an array of freshly baked pastries, cakes and snacks, Red Kite is rarely empty during the day and at the weekend.

Despite the success, the owners are now looking for a new buyer to take over the business that has room for 50 people with tables and chairs by the window looking out towards the main street.

A fully equipped modern kitchen is also located behind the counter, with a seasonal and inventive breakfast and lunch menu offered daily, as well as their signature blend of coffee.

Christie & Co have been instructed to sell Red Kite as they say that the current owners have decided to explore a new avenue of the hospitality sector. They also mention the turnover has steadily increased by 15 per cent from 2018 to 2021 despite multiple Covid lockdown, where the café operated as a takeaway service.

Liam Bain, Business Agent - Retail at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, comments, “The Red Kite can be found on one of the town's busiest thoroughfares linking the outskirts to the city centre providing consistent passing trade and very popular with local residents.

“The Red Kite has a strong following on social networking platforms and boasts fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor and Google. Our clients have invested heavily in the business and this is reflected within its performance, and is well placed for continued growth, which we are confident a new operator could achieve going forward. The business website can be accessed at www.redkitecafe.com.”

One thing that makes the Abbeyhill and Meadowbank area so vibrant is the recent regeneration and addition of shops such as Red Kite. The finalisation of Meadowbank Sports Centre and construction of multiple student accommodation blocks has also added a new dimension to the area where it is starting to attract more residents.

Red Kite Café is on the market at offers over £150,000 for the leasehold going concern.
