Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s £7.5m Cotswolds dream collapses over unexpected problem

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have reportedly abandoned plans to relocate with their family to the Cotswolds.

The US-based global superstars were said to be planning to shell out £7.5 million for 58 acres with planning permission for a seven-bedroom property.

However, according to reports, the proposed move has now been called off after concerns emerged that the land is prone to flooding.

A source told The Sun: “Beyoncé and Jay-Z buying this plot of land was the talk of the Cotswolds. So many locals were excited about them moving in. But the plan appears to have fallen through.

“The plot they were looking at has still not been sold and is now being developed by another couple. It’s a flood-prone area and that will definitely have put a dampener on proceedings — especially with all the rain we’ve had over the past month.”

The Standard has contacted representatives for the couple for comment.

Speculation about a potential UK base intensified last year after wildfires devastated parts of Los Angeles. The pair were reportedly exploring the idea of spending more time in Britain, with the Cotswolds emerging as a frontrunner thanks to its privacy and growing list of celebrity residents.

According to The Oxford Mail, Beyoncé and Jay-Z travelled by helicopter between her London tour dates last year to view the countryside plot on which to raise their children Blue Ivy, 14, and eight-year-old twins Rumi and Sir.

An insider claimed the location appealed because it was close to high-profile neighbours including Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, as well as Simon Cowell and David and Victoria Beckham.

DeGeneres and de Rossi relocated to the Cotswolds in 2024 after years of considering a move, though reports later suggested their countryside home was hit by flooding during Storm Bert. The couple have since been pictured at a $27.4 million property in Montecito, California, which they quietly purchased in November.

Speaking previously about her decision to settle in Britain, DeGeneres praised the “simpler way of life”, telling broadcaster Richard Bacon that everything in the UK felt “just better”, from the scenery to the way animals are treated.

Another famous resident is TV presenter-turned-farmer Jeremy Clarkson, who when asked about the possibility of Beyoncé and Jay-Z becoming his neighbours, admitted he had “no clue” who either of them were.
