Best Scottish motorway hotels named - and the worst

A Scottish hotel has been named among the best Motorway hotels in the UK.

Car maintenance brand Prestone conducted new research to discover the best and worst motorway hotels across the UK, according to customer reviews.

The firm analysed 90 motorway service hotels, using review data from TripAdvisor, Google and the hotel’s own sites to provide average scores for each.

Posting the research online, they wrote: "If you’re planning a holiday sometime soon, or even if travelling is just part of your job, resting up and getting your head down in a comfortable, quiet hotel is an absolute must.

"For those swapping far-flung for somewhere more local this year, we’re here to help. We’ve ranked the UK’s best and worst motorway hotels, including by region, to make your decision making a little easier."

The Travelodge at Kinross services on the M90 in Scotland scored second highest in their rankings of the UK’s motorway hotels, with an average score of 4.4.

The Moto hotel in Kinross, Scotland took second place.

Moto was the operator which had the majority of the hotels in the top 10, accounting for six of them alone.

4. Travelodge Pontefract FerryBridge A1, FerryBridge, England

5. Premier Inn, Ashby De La Zouch, England

6. Travelodge Burton M6, England

7. Travelodge Doncaster M18, England

8. Travelodge Blackburn M65, England

9. Travelodge Wakefield M1, England

10. Travelodge Severn View M48, England.

It’s not all good news however, as the Days Inn by Wyndham Gretna Green appeared in the top 10 worst motorway hotels – scoring just 3.6.

It's been named in the top 10 list of UK Motorway hotels to avoid.
